SASS (Screening, Assessment, and Support Services)
On-Call Crisis SpecialistRecruiting Bonus: $200- $600*
Type: * On-Call Position, Nights, Weekends, Holidays, 8-10 shifts per month (Part-Time)

SUMMARY
Screening, Assessment, and Support Service (SASS), is a 90-day intensive based program for children, adolescents and their families in crisis. SASS provides intensive mental health services for children and youth who may need hospitalization for mental health care. SASS will also provide crisis intervention, linkage and coordination of services to other community based mental health agencies for aftercare and outpatient treatment. The SASS program's main focus is to stabilize the family and maintain the youth at home and in the community. The program serves youth in all of Kane and Kendall counties. This position is on-call and you are required to sign up for at least 8-10 shifts per month.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for accepting crisis calls from the CARES line within ten minutes of the call and therein providing a crisis screening to client at location requested. As part of the assessment, the Crisis Specialist must assess risk, presenting problem, social history, self-care habits, and family system. Intake forms must also be completed
  • Responsible for providing a crisis screening to client at location requested within 90 minutes of initial CARES call. As part of the assessment, the Crisis Specialist must assess risk, presenting problem, social history, self-care habits, and family system. Intake forms and appropriate releases must also be completed
  • Responsible for networking with collaterals on behalf of crisis/active clients, including: referral and linkage, facilitation of level of care determined, and the advocacy of a client’s rights within the education, legal, state and mental health systems when indicated. This includes responsibility for coordinating services with our own sub-contracted agencies
  • Must attend monthly group supervision and responsible for discussing cases with supervisor in clinical, individual and/or group supervision as need arises
  • Responsible for completion of and meeting deadlines for all clinical paperwork for active clients and crisis clients
  • Responsible for completion of and meeting deadlines for all agency administrative paperwork, including: billing slips, time sheets, expense sheets and any other administrative or agency requested reports
  • Responsible for attending meetings as requested by supervisor
  • Responsible for serving on Agency and/or Program Committees when requested by supervisor
  • Responsible for educating the community regarding the SASS program in the service area
  • Responsible for facilitating positive networking relationships with community service providers and/or networks as assigned by supervisor
  • Fulfill agency requirement of training and documenting all training attended and must attend all mandatory agency in-service trainings
  • Be available to help develop materials and participate in special community education projects/presentations as requested by administrative staff
  • Pursue and maintain licensure and/or certification that is available and appropriate to educational/professional background
  • Perform incidental business related travel as needed
  • Participate in agency Risk Management and Continuous Quality Improvement activities.
  • Perform job responsibilities with a positive attitude
  • Responsible for promoting collegiality at the workplace by working collaboratively with others
  • Maintain FSA equipment

TRAVEL
This position require extensive travel throughout the Kane and Kendall County areas and occasionally to areas outside of that.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is done primarily in the community such as at client homes, hospitals, schools, juvenile detention centers, or anywhere else the client may currently be located
During training or other job duties (such as billing, additional training, team meetings), some of those duties can be complete at home with the permission of your supervisor

  • If at the office, crisis specialists share a common area. Desks and seats are shared amongst other members of the team.
  • If the shared area becomes too loud, workers are allowed to utilize therapy office space downstairs (if the space is available) or there is a library area near the common space that can be used.
  • There is also computer space downstairs near the bathrooms with two extra laptops available.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Workers need to be able to spend time driving. SASS service area is all of Kane and Kendall County, and at times it may take the full 90 minutes to get to a location.

  • Workers may be required to stand for long periods of time such as if at a hospital and they do not have a space for you to sit while you work.
  • Other physical demands include sitting, walking and carrying your equipment.
  • Use of computers/surface pros 85% of the time.

Requirements: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
The candidate must possess at least a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Social Work or another related field. Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.
