Duties

Provides supervision of key clinical and training programs, including the overall technical oversight of the multi-discipline staff who are administratively supervised. Therapy Supervisors are responsible for the development and implementation of policies and procedures to address focused clinical needs and the overall services delivered and provided within the section.

Major Duties:

• Demonstrate a great deal of autonomy in performing supervisory responsibilities that include, but are not limited to, assigning work to employees, monitoring workload and clinical volume, reviewing work of employees to assure accuracy and validity of submissions, assuring adequate clinical staffing, imposing disciplinary measures, and monitoring clinical privileges.
• Provide overall clinical supervision that assures the proper coordination and delivery of care within the section and facility at large.
• Responsible for the supervision, administrative management, and direction of all rehabilitation therapy services within the SCI/D Care Line.
• Participating in and assisting administration with coordination in monitoring, and updating of standards for accreditation surveys and National site visits (Joint Commission, CARF for Medical Rehabilitation of the SCI Care Line and annual National PVA Site Visits) related to the SCI Therapy Department.

• Supervises and assigns workload to SCI Therapists: Physical Therapists (PT), Occupational Therapists (OT), Recreation Therapists (RT), Speech Language Pathologist, Driver Rehabilitation (DR) Occupational Therapist and Physical Therapist, Rehabilitation Engineer (RE), Assistive Technology Professional (ATP), trainees, and volunteers in the delivery and/or supp01i of treatment and education of patients and families. Has overall oversight of the student program for the SCI Therapy Department, assigns students to SCI Clinical Instructor's and, coordinates and engages with the University programs through the facility Clinical Educator.
• Coordinates with other departments and services in the areas of SCI OT, PT, DR, RT, SLP, ATP and RE treatment, scheduling, and delivery of care.
• Fully versed and experienced in his/her discipline; serves as a consultant to SCI OT, PT, DR, SLP, RT, ATP, and RE staff and other hospital personnel in evaluating and planning SCI OT, PT, DR, SLP, RT, ATP and RE treatment of specialized and complex Veterans with SCI/D. Serves as a consultant to community clinicians on SCI and OT specialized training and techniques.
• Resolves problems that interfere with the delivery of SCI/D rehabilitative services.
• Performs duties/activities of a staff therapist, when required; maintains appropriate licensure and clinical currency.
