Description

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) performs many varied functions for the Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS). OIG has five Divisions, Regulated Child Care, Health Care, Audits and Investigations, Certificate of Need and Kentucky Health Information Exchange. These Divisions cover a wide variety of job tasks and duties in varied settings throughout Kentucky, which include inspecting and licensing childcare and healthcare facilities and services, and conducting investigations of complaints in those facilities, as well as conducting Medicaid fraud and other types of complaints for the Cabinet.

This position is responsible for inspecting and investigating health care facilities and services to determine compliance with State and Federal regulations. Serves as a member and coordinator of a professional survey team that investigates complaints and regulatory violations. Compliance is determined through interpretation of state and federal regulations and following guidelines, policies, and procedures. This position prepares comprehensive reports of survey findings.

Nurse Consultant Inspectors conduct inspections of healthcare facilities and services for licensure and certification purposes.

Key responsibilities include:

• Conduct licensure and certification inspections.
• Investigate complaints of regulatory violations in healthcare facilities.
• Create written documents detailing findings of non-compliance in healthcare facilities and descriptions of information gathered.
• Participate in conferences, webinars, and other types of training to improve knowledge and skills related to regulation of healthcare facilities.

Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities:

• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully.
• Ability to be flexible with work schedules, work assignments, and overtime needs.
• Excellent writing and speaking skills.
• Proficiency with use of computers, tablets, smart phones for daily tasks.
• Physical ability and energy to traverse large healthcare facilities for extended periods of time during surveys and inspections.

Working Conditions

Work typically is spent in contact with providers and clients outside the organizational unit. May work in homes and neighborhoods in "at risk communities" for violence and drug abuse.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
