The Miami Times, a historic weekly newspaper that has been serving the Black community since 1923, is seeking a talented and versatile individual to join our editorial team as a part-time News Content Curator. This is a unique opportunity for someone who enjoys staying up-to-date on local and national news while also having a passion for ensuring high-quality written and visual content appears in print and online. The role demands sound editorial judgment since you will review, contextualize and select the most engaging, relevant and accurate stories impacting our audience that week across a number of section categories.

The Primary Responsibilities of this position include:

• Curating local and national news stories and images from various wire services/news partners to supplement The Miami Times' original content in print and online.
• Collaborate with our designers to help conceive thoughtful, creative and engaging page designs for The Miami Times print edition.
• Work closely with the executive editor, copy editor and writers to ensure an efficient workflow that brings the best possible content to our readers each week.

Qualifications:

• Prior news publication experience is preferred.
• Excellent news judgement and the ability to curate and select the most relevant and impactful news stories for our readers.
• A strong understanding of print publication design best practices.
• Familiarity with Associated Press Style formatting guidelines.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify errors in grammar, punctuation, spelling, and syntax.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with writers, editors, and other team members.

Time Commitment:

This position has a somewhat flexible schedule provided production deadlines are met and a smooth operational workflow is achieved. Candidates should expect to work between 1-5 hours daily on Thursday, Friday, Monday and Tuesday. We estimate this role will typically require a minimum of 15 hours per week, but should not exceed 25 hours weekly.
