- Maintains contacts with customer personnel to identify plans and get on bid lists
- Meets and collaborates with clients, engineers, and other staff to understand the projects being proposed including technical, schedule and budgetary expectations
- Identifies deficiencies in customer plans, develops solutions and notifies the customer
- Determines or Designs Equipment Locations
- Designs air flow, water flow, piping and related control control systems as required
- Designs modifications to existing systems to achieve efficient operation
- Creates Estimates for Jobs:
- Walks Job Sites to understand Work Scope
- Obtains drawings for projects, reviews requirements for the job and creates a take-off list of materials and tasks to be performed
- Reviews ALL conditions, stipulations and requirements identified by the customer for inclusion in the bid
- Reviews plans and specifications for new construction to determine compatibility with existing equipment or acceptability of design
- Determines the appropriate Equipment to be Ordered
- Identifies cost of Specific Equipment and Material for the job
- Identify Supply House Costs for Unusual Material Requirements making notes of conversations and personnel spoken with (with phone numbers) for subsequent ordering of materials
- Identifies the labor required for the job
- Identifies outside services cost (subcontractors, equipment rental, permits, etc) for the job
- Uses company estimating tools and factors to produce a bid price for the job
- Reviews the results with the VP, Business Development for approval
- Reviews and analyzes existing and proposed processes, personnel, and materials
- Identifies cost-reduction opportunities, reporting these to the VP, Business Development
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings including the ability to extrapolate requirements for systems when the drawings are incomplete such as in residential applications
- Knowledge of national, state and local codes
- Extensive knowledge of Plumbing and/or HVAC Installation and Service for both
- Residential and Commercial applications This includes practices, methods, materials, and equipment used in the installation of HVAC, Plumbing or Hydronics Systems
- Working knowledge of electrical systems and connections
- Extensive knowledge of estimating and bidding processes
- Extreme attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; can speak with authority with customer (contractor) personnel
- Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word
- Service Titan Experience desirable
- Minimum of 3 years experience specific experience in Plumbing and/or HVAC quoting, bidding, estimating, etc. with demonstrated experience in take-offs and estimating. (If the individual does not have this experience, he or she may be a candidate as a trainee but not as a full estimator.)
- Demonstrated success in finding, quoting and winning HVAC & Plumbing Business in a $5M to $10M company
- High School Degree or equivalent required
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Estimating, Marketing, Sales or related field preferred
