  • Title: Network PC Technician
  • Location: Information Technology @ The Library Services Center
  • Hours: Full-Time, 40 hours/week
  • Schedule: Varies, a combination of Day, Evening and Weekend hours
  • Starting Hourly Rate: $21.27 per hour
  • FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

A successful candidate will…

  • Have three to five years of related work experience.
  • 6 months to 1 year of advanced training past high school diploma, or equivalent work experience.
  • Have a valid driver's license and a safe driving record.
  • Be available to work the scheduled hours.
  • Be bilingual (preferred but not required).

What does the job look like?

      • Installs, assembles and configures computers and laptops, monitors, and peripherals such as printers, scanners, and related hardware. Installs and configures Windows-based operating systems onto computers and custom-configures desktop/laptops for specific library roles. Uses imaging & desktop security software to create a wide variety of desktop/laptop configurations.
      • Travels throughout the city to all Library locations to render technical support. Maintains and repairs computer equipment; performs on-site analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of computers, printers, scanners, self-check units, and related peripherals.
      • Troubleshoots Tier I & II problems with hardware/software, e-mail, wireless and wired network and peripheral equipment problems; make repairs and corrections when required. Escalates problems to Tier III when appropriate.
      • Deploys computer equipment; moves workstations and peripherals to various locations when necessary; meet with staff to review existing desktop/laptop configurations in preparation for hardware/software upgrades; communicates and trains staff on computer procedures.
      • Answers incoming Helpdesk queries; records customer queries; updates self-help documents; researched questions using available information resources.
      • Tracks and reports incoming and outgoing equipment shipments, distribution of equipment to staff and locations; un-boxes new products and applies asset tags to new product; scans hardware into and out of inventory database; organizes old equipment auction items and shelves for incoming products; prepares paperwork for employees that are assigned laptops or other equipment.
      • Provides customer service by responding appropriately to issues and finding resolutions; facilitating specific technical needs; converse with vendors to coordinate repairs; collaborate within IT and other departments to ensure technical expectations are understood and met.
      • Maintains knowledge and understanding of various network traffic routing, network monitoring utilities, and WAN, LAN and internet connectivity; uses remote access tools to troubleshoot and resolve connectivity and network drive mapping issues.
      • Able to work the normally scheduled work time for this position.
      • Able to cope with daily job-related stress.
