Network Administrator Needed in Omaha, NE

Experienced Network Administrator with expertise in Mircrosoft Server domain environments, remote desktop services and multiple site firewall VPN configurations.

Prefer candidates with an AS/BS Degree or currently attending college in a related field of study or has obtained certification in key areas.

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Day shift
  • Monday through Friday with rare instances of working nights/weekends during critical incidents or critical updates; on-call schedule rotation

Work Environment:

  • Regional and national travel to terminal locations 20 – 30% of the time for updated projects in the first 8 months
  • Must be willing and able to carry up to 35 pounds up and down stairs

Prerequisite Skills:

  • Ability to run and create ethernet cable as needed
  • Strong communication skills

  • Strong documentation skills
  • Knowledge of Cisco Meraki, SonicWall and Watchguard devices is a plus

Responsibilities:

  • Research and identify solutions to network configuration and hardware issues
  • Maintain multi-site network environment
  • Create and follow network update schedules ensuring systems are up-to-date and secure
  • Maintain and test regular configuration backups
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot a broad range of technical issues
  • Track escalated issues through to resolution, providing notes and updates in the IT Support Desk ticketing system
  • Refer to internal database or external resources to provide accurate tech solutions
  • Prioritize and manage several open issues and projects at one time
  • Work on specific projects as assigned by IT Manager and/or Project Manager
  • Work with other infrastructure team members to resolve issues and plan for future growth
  • Document technical knowledge in the form of internal Knowledge Base articles
  • Recommend process/technology changes when and where it makes sense
  • Maintain positive relationships with internal/external customers and team members

About the Role:

Founded in 1928, TransWood is a liquid chemical and dry bulk transportation company based out of Omaha Nebraska with nearly 40 offices spread throughout the United States. As a member of the IT team, you will be supporting these internal customers to ensure their operations run with minimal downtime. We are enablers and problem-solvers, always looking for ways to help the business grow and succeed.

We are looking for a service-oriented Network Administrator to control all networks and network related systems internal to the company. This individual will ensure licensing and updates are applied to all networking equipment. A well-rounded understanding of networking will be needed as focus can shift from issue resolution-related tasks to planning for growth and new hardware. With a small and tight nit IT team this position will be drawn into support of users as a link in the escalation chain for problems that point to network, DNS, and VPN environments as well as configuration changes.

This is a key part of the IT/BA team. A basic level of other core IT areas is required, but we will also allow you to explore the many facets of the IT space and help grow your career along your desired path. Our small team has a wealth of knowledge in system administration, network administration, end-user hardware, server management, virtualization, Office 365 administration, database administration, business intelligence development, business analysis, project management, and we are always looking at new software and technology as there is always more to learn.

The two most important qualities that a competitive candidate will possess are a strong ability to troubleshoot and document. Solving the problem is a start, but this person needs to solve the problem and then document how and why the issue occurred so that it can be prevented moving forward.
