Salary Range: $19.56 - $25.48 hourly

Job Summary:

This technician will act under the direction of the NAT Crew Supervisor directly or through an assigned Technician II and is responsible for assisting in all grounds, building and maintenance activities. Tasks may include landscape maintenance, native vegetation management, hard surface maintenance, playground repairs and upkeep, snow removal, irrigation repairs, outdoor building maintenance, daily small equipment maintenance and special event assignments.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Intermediate knowledge (1-3 years) of specific landscape native maintenance practices.
  • General knowledge of native vs. non-native and noxious plant species.
  • Ability to recognize safety hazards in landscapes through visual inspection.
  • Use all required safety equipment and take proper safety precautions, anticipate unsafe circumstances, and act accordingly to prevent accidents.
  • Familiar with equipment such as, mower, blower, truck, plow, ATV, small tractor, etc.
  • Familiar with GPS, GIS, and typical MS Office applications.
  • Snow removal best practices with various equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Essential Functions:

  • Typical landscape duties to include repairing irrigation systems, fertilizing, applying herbicides and pesticides, edge sidewalks, string trim, aeration, mowing, shelter maintenance, brick paver repairs and site cleanup.
  • Responsible for maintaining safety standards and visually inspecting equipment and site amenities daily.
  • Provide a consistent maintenance program which helps to improve native vegetation health, overall ecosystem function and image for the entire city.
  • Required to frequently use gas-powered equipment during all seasons.
  • Use all required safety equipment and take proper safety precautions, anticipate unsafe circumstances, and act accordingly to prevent accidents.
  • Assists with data collection for performance measures.
  • Assists with assigned snow removal routes and duties, at times on weekends, holidays, or outside typical business hours.
  • Provide support to other staff during peak times and with larger projects (snow removal, irrigation inventory, volunteer/service project and capital improvement projects).
  • Ability to rotate on-call and respond in a timely manner. May be assigned to various internal or external boards and committees.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Moderate to considerable physical effort that includes working from ladders in awkward positions.
  • Frequent use of light or medium weight objects (e.g., 25-50 lbs.) and use of medium weight tools.
