Summary of Role

The MV/HV Technical Training Manager (MV/HV - SME) is responsible for the development and delivery of key elements of the NovaSource Power Environmental, Health, Safety, and Technical training program, working within the EHS team and reports to the EHS Director. This includes hiring and managing a team of Subject Matter Expert (SME) trainers to deliver world class EHS and Technical training across all regions.

The position is Hybrid with preference given to candidates who live in the Chandler, AZ area.

Position requires extensive travel, more than 50% of the time.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop, streamline, and deliver all technical and EHS training across all regions.
  • Provide instruction and activities in all the areas of PV Systems, designs, operations, safety, procedures, best practices, environmental, health, and safety; and creating a learning environment effective for adult and technical learning.
  • Provide structured, project-based lessons based on industry standards and learning that connects career development with health and safety.
  • Facilitate translation into various languages spoken throughout the company’s regions.
  • Develop, deliver, and manage supervisor and manager EHS focused leadership training.
  • Aid in the creation of Toolbox topic and safety meeting content and delivery based on leading/lagging indicators.
  • Use NSPS’s LMS as well as other technology to develop learning focused on adult learning needs.
  • Use NSPS’s LMS to house and manage all training records, including those not delivered via the LMS system.
  • Manage a team of traveling SME trainers (NSPS employees and contractors).
  • Work closely with members of Senior Leadership on training needs from a field level.
  • Develop training calendar and aid Managers with maintaining training certifications to ensure all employees are current on training and qualifications.
  • Aid in developing and managing the NSPS Short Service Employee program including ensuring that SSEs display the knowledge and skills necessary to be released from SSE status.
  • Ensure there is enough hands-on training for employees to demonstrate competency in EHS and their job duties.
  • Manage the NSPS employee Training Matrix as well as the Contractor Training Matrix.
  • Independent problem solving with complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating very complex issues to EHS Director and senior operations management.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of progressive experience in the renewable energy (wind/solar) industry - 10 years or more is preferred.Will consider powerline industry experience either as a lineman, or electrical engineer.
  • An ideal candidate would be a MV/HV SME electrician with senior level O&M technician experience in the field with utility scale solar (or wind) power plants (can be former journeyman lineman, or electrical engineer with renewable power plant experience).
  • NFPA 70E Trainer - Required
  • OSHA 500 or 501, or ability to obtain after hire.
  • HAZWOPER trainer, or ability to obtain this after hire.
  • 1st Aid/CPR/AED trainer (National Safety Council or American Red Cross)
  • Experience with rooftop safety, aerial lift, scissor lift, forklift, defensive driving training - Preferred
  • Must be a team player and willing to work with various business units and the global EHS team; with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience developing content for and managing a Learning Management System (LMS) - Docebo experience preferred.
  • Experience managing training personnel and training contractors.
  • Experience managing and maintaining training records – recordkeeping experience.
  • Fluent English (reading and writing); multi-lingual strongly preferred (Spanish, Italian, French, German)
  • Knowledge of state and federal environmental, health and safety regulations.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize work and follow through on deliverables.
  • Must be able to work independently and is a self-motivator.
  • Ability to work in quick moving, multi-time zone environment.
  • Strong organizational and technical writing skills, with special attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, SalesForce, and SharePoint; Docebo proficiency preferred.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills preferred.
  • Must be available to work long hours, when necessary.
  • Position requires extensive travel, more than 50% of the time.

Education

  • Preference to candidates who have a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, occupational, health and safety, education or similar; OR candidates who are a certified teacher in a vocational/technical construction or maintenance-related training program along with requisite experience.
  • OSHA Certified Trainer (OSHA 500 or 501) – Preferred (or ability to obtain this after hire)
  • Certified PV Installation Professional - Preferred

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years experience working with and training in the renewable energy industry – preferred
  • Minimum 5 years experience working with and training in substations (can be line industry experience but preferred renewable industry experience)
  • Minimum 5 years experience developing content for an LMS system
  • Proven track record on training theory in the areas of Electrical Safety, Qualified Electrical Workers, Convertor/Invertor, Substation Maintenance, PV safety, and EH&S courses
  • Environmental trainer experience (HAZWOPER, SPCC, etc. preferred).

Physical Demands

  • May need to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • May need to use ladders, bend, twist, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • May need to travel to the field and wear PPE (safety glasses, gloves, safety toed boots, hard hats, fall protection, and other PPE as site conditions may require).
  • Utilize ladders, aerial lifts or work platforms; must be able to work from heights.

Pay: $95,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
