The multimedia specialist works under the director of the Senior Manager of Communications and serves as an important member of the City’s Communications, Community Engagement, and Cultural Affairs team. The Multimedia specialist will design, write, and produce multimedia and print collateral that promotes League City events, programs, and initiatives and encourages residents to become more engaged with League City government. Such collateral includes but is not limited to the city’s and CVB’s website, employee Intranet, social media, electronic newsletters, annual report, City Matters magazine, other print publications, photography, community, and employee electronic surveys, and more. The multimedia specialist will also assist with the planning and implementation of city events, working occasional nights and weekends as necessary.

  • Design and ensure timely delivery of print and electronic publications including but not limited to City Manager’s electronic newsletter, other electronic newsletters, City Matters magazine, resident guide, annual report, bond newsletters, recreation guides, library guides, etc.
  • Collaborate with all members of the communications team to produce graphic content for use on all internal city and CVB communication platforms including to but not limited to websites, social media, Survey Monkey, Mail Chimp, etc. and for outside marketing and communication platforms including use on billboards, newspaper and magazine ads, digital marketing, and more.
  • Serve as a staff photographer capturing images for use in print, web, social media, and other multimedia platforms and upload and label all photographs into the city’s photo repository.
  • Support and liaison with staff members from other departments in the design and creation of publications, brochures, flyers and other print and multimedia collateral that promote the city, city events, citizen engagement, or employment with the City.
  • Work occasional nights and weekends at city sponsored events, meetings, programs, and town halls.
  • Update content and graphics on various content management platforms and website platforms.
  • Assist the department with the planning and implementation of events and programs including but not limited to State of the City, Boards and Commission’s Dinner, Realtor Breakfast, etc.
  • Serve as an ambassador for the city and the Communications, Community Engagement and Cultural Affairs Department.
  • Multitask between regular task requests, small and large projects, and emergency or time sensitive projects that require immediate attention.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree in graphic design or a related field or equivalent work experience (two years of work experience per year of college) or a combination of related work experience and education. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Five years of work experience in graphics, communications, media, public relations, or associated field.
  • Portfolio of graphic design work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design
  • Municipal, chamber or non-profit experience
  • 10 plus years work experience
  • Any combination of education, training, and experience, which provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities needed for this position, may be substituted or evaluated at the discretion of the City.

COMPETENCIES FOR SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE OF JOB DUTIES

Knowledge of:
  • Advanced knowledge of InDesign, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Suite, Mac-based programs, and knowledge of other pertinent software programs including Survey monkey and Mail Chimp or similar product.
  • Advanced knowledge of content management website platforms, WordPress, and Wix
  • Advanced knowledge of principles and practices of news reporting and AP style guidelines.
Skill in:
  • Strong written, editing, and verbal communications skills.
  • Skills in social media including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and programs to manage and track them.
Ability to:
  • Interface with the public and internal/external other stakeholders.
  • Plan, manage, and track projects of varying size and complexity.
  • Regular and timely attendance at work.
  • Flexible work schedule and the ability to work some nights, weekends, holidays and during emergency events natural disaster.
