We have an opportunity for an experienced Motor Engineer to join our Delavan, WI team. The Motor Engineer will be responsible for analyzing motor designs and making specifications to support VA/VE, Compliance, and NPD projects, including fractional and integral horsepower motors for a variety of applications including submersible water wells, submersible sump and effluent pumps, jet pumps, and irrigation pumps. The Motor Engineer will also be responsible for the Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) that complement these motors. The Motor Engineer will become familiar with our existing product lines to support sustaining efforts. The position will also be responsible for developing specifications and evaluating VFDs for future opportunities. This position reports directly to the Engineering Manager. We will support relocation for this position.

You will:

  • Develop specifications and qualification test plans for single and three phase induction motors.
  • Review and analyze dynamometer and other lab test data to ensure both customer and compliance needs are met.
  • Ensure both Pentair and third-party motor prints include appropriate detail and tolerancing.
  • Develop wire and fuse sizing tables for both motors and VFDs.
  • Provide input to product teams on the advantages and disadvantages of different motor designs for a particular pump application.
  • Work with multi-functional project teams to develop products on schedule, on budget, and at target quality levels.
  • Provide guidance to technical support team related to field issues or questions related to both motors and VFDs.
  • Develop specifications and functional flow charts for VFDs sourced from third parties.
  • Provide technical help in analyzing field failures and closing feedback loop for quality/process improvement.
  • Work with lab technicians to ensure test setup and equipment provide required accuracy of results.
