Summary:

SUMMARY: The Mortgage Accountant 1 is an entry level accounting position responsible for updating and maintaining financial records. The incumbent analyzes financial information and uses that information to prepare accounting entries and/or reports. The Mortgage Accountant 1 provides support to management with all accounting functions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Prepares complex accounting entries for certain daily activity from source documents (including, but not limited to check requests, wires, invoices, deposits, loan closings and sales and ACH). After proper review, entries are posted to the general ledger.
  • Performs queries and/or uses the servicing platform reports to determine accounting entries to record service fees, late charges, escrow advances, repayments, foreclosure advances, modification fees, interest expense and various other income and expenses. Responsible for the calculation and entry of monthly non-cash accruals.
  • Performs reconciliations of specific assigned general ledger accounts. Researches and assists in the clearing of stale-dated reconciling items on a monthly basis.
  • Provide assistance to mortgage accounting management in reviewing daily cash flow position to determine cash needs as requested.
  • Assist mortgage accounting management in preparing the quarterly reports for the MBS, FNMA, FHLMC, and FHA agencies.
  • Inputs Outgoing Wire Transfer requests through the Arvest Wire program. Ensures proper approval and documentation prior to submission of the wire.
  • Prepares monthly internal financial and other management reports utilized to monitor financial activity and provide transaction detail. Also, prepares documents for imaging process.
  • Performs monthly analytical review of general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy.
  • May assist with audit requests of reports, reconciliations and documentation of accounting records along with creating, maintaining and monitoring Microsoft Access databases.
  • May calculate and/or review system-generated calculations for commission payments to mortgage loan officers, sales assistants, mortgage loan operations managers and others, as applicable. Actively communicates with the payroll department for adjustments and/or payments. This may also include reviewing the payout on incentive plans within mortgage.
  • Understand and comply with bank policy, laws, regulations, and the bank's BSA/AML Program, as applicable to your job duties. This includes but is not limited to; complete compliance training and adhere to internal procedures and controls; report any known violations of compliance policy, laws, or regulations and report any suspicious customer and/or account activity.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent related experience required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge in Excel spreadsheets required.
  • Proficiency in Access preferred.
