Job description
The Virginia Department of Health, Office of Chief Medical Examiner Central District, located in Richmond Virginia, is actively seeking to recruit a Body Release and Receipt Technician. This is a classified position with benefits. This position is responsible for working evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. This position is responsible for receiving, releasing and physically moving human remains, processing evidence/personal belongings and ensuring the integrity of the evidence recovered and stored at the office. Some computer data entry to record activities. Also responsible for monitoring access of visitors and the public to the building to ensure compliance with security policies. Reporting of unusual or emergency conditions to appropriate authorities. Perform surveillance of the refrigeration systems in morgue area. Monitor access and admittance of organ procurement organizations. Laundry, light cleaning and facility maintenance duties in the morgue area. This position will also perform administrative duties to include but not limited to: filing, faxing and photocopying.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be able to communicate effectively verbally. Knowledge of OSHA and security procedures. Ability to push/pull 100 to 500 lbs and lift with assistance is required. Must have some computer experience/data entry skills. Able to traverse uphill, rocky or otherwise unstable terrain and respond to mass disaster scenes. Experience performing administrative duties to include but not limited to: filing, faxing and photocopying is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience with human remains in a hospital, morgue, funeral home or medical examiner’s facility is advantageous. Experience/training with handling evidence preferred.

Employment is contingent upon satisfactory results of a state and federal criminal history background check and the Department of Social Service’s Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry check, U.S. HHS IG Exclusion List check, employment reference check and E-Verify. Other financial, credit, driving, or other background checks prior to employment may be required for certain positions. Completion of Statement of Economic Interests will be required upon employment.
