The Learning Community School is a Kindergarten through 8th grade school nestled in the Swannanoa Valley. We offer an academically rigorous program complemented by outdoor education, performing and visual arts. We work to inspire our students to be their best selves.

The Learning Community School seeks a full-time Middle School Social Studies/History teacher. Reporting to the Head of School, our teachers provide a hands-on, active learning environment where students engage with content in a meaningful manner. Our instructional approach incorporates elements of Orton-Gillingham and utilizes hands-on learning for students to actively engage with the class material. Taking advantage of our 40 acre campus, there are many learning opportunities in our environment. In collaboration with the grade level and special subjects team, our teachers meet students where they are and challenge them to exceed their personal learning goals.

The teacher’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Creating a learning environment that promotes student academic growth.
• Utilize our campus for active learning opportunities.
• Contribute to TLC curriculum guide and curriculum development.
• Attend conferences, meetings, and school promotion activities and events.
• Write student progress and evaluation reports on the school schedule.
• Participate with grade level trips and event experiences.
• Engage with professional development and mentoring opportunities.
• Interact with families in a respectful, timely manner building relationships supporting students’ academic and developmental growth.
• Attend all faculty and staff meetings before, during and after the school year.
• Maintain up-to-date student records.
• Participate in at least one school committee.
• Conduct family meetings as needed.
• Maintain up to date lesson and project plans and a clean and orderly environment in the classroom and at the school as a whole.
• Inform the Head of School of serious, disruptive, or potentially harmful student issues.
• Demonstrate a commitment to working with culturally diverse students, families, and colleagues and contributing to building and maintaining an inclusive community.
• Other duties as assigned by the Head of School.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40,000.00 - $43,000.00 per year
