Job Overview

MIDDLE SCHOOL Chapin students are valued, loved, and appreciated for their diverse backgrounds, talents, and interests. The Middle School faculty strives to engage students in their learning, challenging them while nurturing the joy and curiosity that they naturally bring to our classrooms daily. As they develop the ability to think critically, they are simultaneously learning the skills and acquiring the tools to communicate clearly and effectively. Without realizing it, they are part of the teaching and learning process, asking the essential questions, researching the answers through reading, investigations, problems and projects, and are able to assess their learning and growth. When they leave Middle School at the end of Class 7, our students understand what it means to be a self-directed learner, they have a foundation of knowledge and skills upon which to build, and most importantly, they are eager to continue on their learning journey.

In MIDDLE SCHOOL SCIENCE, students work towards developing their skills as scientists with engaging and relevant content. This is accomplished by the Science Department engaging in ongoing curricular and pedagogical work that recognizes the inquiring scientist in every student and aligns with Next Generation Science Standards. Core to the work that students do in Middle School Science is asking questions and then answering these questions by means of authentic scientific practices. In this way, students are given the opportunity to model the work of professional scientists.
