Voz Collegiate PreparatoryCharter School

Middle School Teacher

Our Belief:

We believe wholeheartedly that all students deserve access to high quality education in an environment where every adult in our building loves and honors their identities, ambitions, and heritage. Voz Collegiate, a new public charter middle school authorized within Albuquerque Public Schools, is a refreshing reimagining of the middle school experience.

The Experience:

Our middle school model is unique. Teachers will teach and loop with their cohort of students throughout the duration of their time at Voz Collegiate. This aligns with our belief that relationships matter, especially in middle school. Being a part of a new school in year 3 of operations does not come without its challenges. As a Voz Collegiate teacher, or member of our staff, you get to be an integral part in creating and laying the foundation of who we are as a school. We are looking for culturally conscious, high-capacity individuals to join our growing team.

The Opportunity:

We understand we are not for everybody. We are looking for educators who are hungry to do things differently - to build a world where our students get a fair shot at living the American Dream. We are searching for folks who want to get in on the ground floor of what we believe is the future of education in the name of equity, justice, and access for all children! If that is you, we hope you join us!

Our Mission in Action:

Computer Science Promotes Digital Literacy in a 21st Century World. Scholars living in a digital world must be digitally literate. Every scholar takes Computer Science as a core subject, every year. Computer Science skills help enhance the cognitive skills necessary to successfully navigate our math, literacy, social studies, and science courses.

Social Emotional Learning Bolsters Academic Success. We utilize weekly Compass Circles, a structured methodology where students and teachers build trust with face-to-face dialogue, to create an optimal environment for learning. We believe that our humanity is found through our relationships with others.

Oral Literacy Focus. Scholars will take Speech and Debate and New Mexico Influenced Music and Art courses weekly. Possessing a solid foundation in oral literacy will help our scholars become successful readers and strong communicators as well as build their confidence and overall sense of well-being. When our scholars harness the power of voice, they awaken their power of identity.

Professional Habits. Our scholars will be warmly greeted each morning with a firm handshake. Scholars will be expected to exhibit our Core Values: Self-determination, Professionalism, Accountability, Resilience, and Kindness. Professional habits are critical to a student’s overall social and academic success. We give scholars tools they need to be resourceful in a socially perceptive way, to innovate not just alone but with a group of peers, and to adapt when new situations arise.

College Preparatory. For our scholars, college begins in 6th grade. Scholars will develop personal portfolios in both digital and hardcopy form curating social and academic work completed. This will assist in developing skills crucial to the research-based environment of higher learning. Demographics do not determine our scholars’ destiny.

Your Contributions to our Collective Success:

  • Commit to, believe in, and be in alignment with our ambitious mission, goals, educational philosophies, and promises we have made to our scholars and their families
  • Work collaboratively with school leadership to thoughtfully utilize data and systems to inform social and academic programming to enhance our scholars’ learning experience
  • Actively contribute and collaborate with team members to discuss the social and academic progress of our students and strategize on how to create and sustain a structured, joyful, and warm environment that is conducive to learning and acceptance
  • Advocate for our scholars and ensure that they are fully supported and have every resource available to them so they can be successful
  • Be relentless in your pursuit of personal and professional reflection, greatness, and growth for yourself and our scholars
  • Be optimistic in your approach to situations with an optimistic outlook and determination and willingness to hold yourself and others accountable
  • Be receptive to and apply feedback designed to help you grow, self-reflect, and prepare you to be the champion our scholars need
  • Invest in yourself as much as you invest in our scholars; when you grow, we grow

Your Education, Experience, and Skills:

  • Ensure that the school’s academic standards are rigorous, clear, measurable, and aligned with Common Core, New Mexico STEM Ready! Science Standards, and New Mexico Common Core State Standards
  • Use the school’s scope and sequence to develop unit plans, daily lesson plans, and teacher created exemplars
  • Submit lesson plan notes, examples, and exemplars weekly, as well as apply revisions provided by the leadership team
  • Develop curriculum that is differentiated for all learning styles, specifically our students with special needs and our students identified as English Learners
  • Use a diverse set of strategies for student engagement in the classroom
  • Assume responsibility for the progress of every child
  • Consistently utilize all assessment data to recalibrate and readjust curriculum and instructional practices
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues
  • Effectively collaborate with grade-level and department teams to develop curriculum and create strategic plans
  • Cultivate and foster close relationships with families and create opportunities to involve them in their children’s education
  • Use planning periods for data analysis to enhance curriculum and instruction to achieve academic growth in students
  • Spanish proficiency preferred
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree, with all accompanying verification provided as part of the personnel file

Our Investment in You

At Voz Collegiate, we believe in investing in the growth of our teachers. As such, we will provide teachers with extensive professional development opportunities that will promote their growth as educators and leaders. Voz Collegiate Prep teachers will have 29 full days and 36 weekly sessions (2.5 hours per session) of professional development, and at least one hour of individualized one-on-one coaching each week during a 30-week school year, totaling 360 hours of professional development each year. A positive staff culture around feedback and growth will enable us to grow experts in content and execution, achieving stronger and faster academic results for our students.

High-quality instruction is a core element in achieving the goals in our mission. Therefore, we invest extensively in individual and whole-group staff professional development throughout the school year because we believe that high-quality instruction is the driving force of academic growth. Professional development occurs individually through weekly observations and feedback, weekly coaching meetings, and lesson plan feedback.
