Miami-Dade County Community Liaison Application

Overview:
Urban Health Partnerships (UHP) is working with Miami-Dade County to engage the residents of various communities within the County on the development of new mobility technology. Using pilot projects to gather community feedback, this initiative aims to focus on community needs and desires for this technology while exploring ways these technologies can improve accessibility and equitability for all Miami-Dade County residents and visitors. Through this initiative, UHP is planning to gather community feedback that reflects the public’s vision for these technologies in their communities and provide that feedback to the County and tech companies for their consideration in development and implementation of future mobility projects.

UHP is hiring Miami-Dade County residents as Community Liaisons to support the community engagement efforts for this project in their community. UHP will build the Community Liaison’s capacity and knowledge about critical issues related to mobility, public spaces, community health, and organizing.

The Miami-Dade County communities we are seeking Community Liaisons for are as follows:

  • Little Havana
  • Hialeah
  • Downtown Miami / Brickell
  • Homestead / Florida City
  • Pinecrest
  • Aventura
  • Sweetwater
  • Little Haiti / Liberty City
  • Miami Beach

You must reside within one of these communities to be considered for a position.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Community Liaisons will:

  • Participate in a demonstration of the new mobility technologies (aka pilot project; first pilot project will be delivery robots)
  • Share insight on how the new mobility technologies may be received in their community, ideas for specific people or purposes it could serve, and feedback on potential barriers the tech might meet.
  • Collaborate with UHP to develop community contacts list and outreach plan
  • Promote community engagement opportunities through social media, phone/text banking, emailing, flyering, and door-knocking/canvassing
  • Co-design and co-host engagement opportunities and sessions to showcase the technologies to their community network and help gather input and ideas
  • Gather insights on people's perception on new mobility technology prior to and after pilot experience
  • Write a brief summary sharing how the outreach went and what was learned after each event
  • Review project report’s recommendations compiled by UHP to ensure they are reflective of the community's input

Note: In-person/field activities will be determined with the safety of Community Liaisons and the community as a priority, following CDC guidelines, and in compliance with local emergency orders

Secondary Duties & Responsibilities
Community Liaisons will also:

  • Build relationships with relevant community partners and stakeholders
  • Help the community connect with the project team
  • Provide detailed work notes and updates virtually as needed and required
  • Participate in biweekly check-ins with the Outreach and Training Coordinator
  • Participate in monthly project check-ins with the entire team where you will support and guide assessment efforts related to the project goals. These include surveys, interviews, observations, etc.
  • Meetings and events will consider your personal scheduling needs as much as possible, however, availability will occasionally be necessary on weekday afternoons
  • Have designated scheduled office hours
  • Participate in experiential on-the-job training, which includes:
  • In-person and virtual training
  • Field experience such as attending meetings with County staff and officials and tech companies, and learning about and leading fieldwork
  • Development and completion of at least one professional development goal for yourself that is aligned with project goals and/or needs
  • Individual supervision and coaching

Community Liaisons will be selected based on the following criteria:

  • Are residents of one of the following communities within Miami-Dade County:
  • Little Havana
  • Hialeah
  • Downtown Miami / Brickell
  • Homestead / Florida City
  • Pinecrest
  • Aventura
  • Sweetwater
  • Little Haiti / Liberty City
  • Miami Beach
  • Are committed to becoming advocates and champions for positive change in their community
  • Have demonstrated a commitment to their community by previous community work (professional, school activities or volunteering)
  • Able to commit to this initiative over a 12-month period with the potential to extend beyond.
  • Able to work with the community in a culturally sensitive way

Additional Skills and Abilities

  • Prior experience with community involvement and outreach is not required, but preferred
  • Must present themselves professionally
  • Comfortable with digital media for engagement and organizing, or willing to learn (e.g. social media, email, texting, phone banking, etc.)
  • Must be comfortable with using Google Suite products, or willing to learn (e.g. Gmail, Google calendar, Google forms, etc.)
  • Must be comfortable using an electronic hours-tracking software and able to complete reporting of all hours in a timely manner
  • Must be able to commute around independently, either by own means of transportation or by public transit
  • Must follow all UHP policies including virtual and safety policies established in regard to COVID-19 and following CDC guidelines
  • Must complete background check processed by UHP

Time Commitment

  • Must be able to commit to the position through March 2023
  • Each Community Liaison is expected to work between 3 - 5 hours per week on the tasks described above, for no more than 25 hours per month.

Compensation

  • Compensation is $17.62 per hour, based on experience
