PRIMARY PURPOSE: To manage all inbound and outbound recall material to meet planning and compliance objectives. To manage the development, implementation, monitoring and execution of the company's Waste Management Program for North America..

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Selects, trains, and develops an effective and efficient staff for the product recall business Waste Management Program .
  • Leads all aspects of Sedgwick Brand Protection’s Waste Management Program.
  • Establishes and develops vendor relationships which includes identifying new vendors for incineration, recycling, and landfill opportunities, conducting onboarding, periodic and for cause audits, and managing contacts and the continued ability to schedule disposals.
  • Leads and facilitates all waste profiling of unidentified or known products to achieve proper destruction and waste generation status, effectively communicating capabilities and alternatives to clients.
  • Leads the waste management team in the detailed maintenance of waste management records required by Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, and ensures timely compliance with all DOT, Transport Canada, EPA and CMECC (Canada Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change) reporting requirements.
  • Provides technical expertise as the subject matter expert within the organization on industry best practices for appropriate handling and disposition of all types of waste.
  • As required, engages with clients on waste disposal decisions and logic behind decision making.
  • Responsible for DOT, EPA and CMECC review for all new Recall events and retrievals that involve hazardous materials.
  • Act as signatory on all client’s Scope Of Work (SOW's) for Recall events.
  • Responsible for all DOT, Transport Canada, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and Hazardous Waste Information Network (HWIN – Canada) compliance pertaining to storage, transportation and generation of product and waste.
  • Act as subject matter expert and signatory on all waste related SOP's (Standard Operating Procedures) and work instructions.
  • Manages all client disposal invoicing within Quest software.
  • Ensures that all Accounts Payable (A/P) documents are evaluated for accuracy and coded correctly for processing of payment.
  • Responsible for administering the proper financial accruals for waste program.
  • Coordinates and monitors the storage and handling of hazardous waste ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Collaborates with Operations and EHS colleagues to ensure EPA and DOT regulations are being followed at all times.
  • Monitors and ensures that team members are performing their functions safely and productively. Makes recommendations for changes or improvement based on work productivity and trends.
  • Establishes and communicates performance standards and objectives; conducts annual performance appraisals and provides timely feedback.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Supports the organization's quality program(s).
  • Travels as required. <10%

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides support, guidance, leadership and motivation to promote maximum performance.
  • Administers company personnel policies in all areas and follows company staffing standards and training recommendations.
  • Interviews, hires and establishes colleague performance development plans; conducts colleague performance discussions.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Licensing

Bachelor's degree preferably in environmental science from an accredited college or university preferred. Hazardous waste operations and emergency response (HAZWOPPER) certification or the ability to be certified required . May require mandatory immunizations and credentialing based on customer requirements.

Experience

Eight (6) years of compliance or Waste industry experience to include two (2) years of management experience demonstrating the ability to plan and supervise the work of others, or equivalent combination of education and experience required. 2 years of vendor relationship experience preferred.
