Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required; supplemented by one year of work experience that shows an ability to maintain steady employment in any field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

Purpose of Classification:

The purpose of this classification is to read and report consumption rates for water meters on an assigned route.

Essential Functions:

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Performs meter reading activities on an assigned route: records meter data and verifies accuracy of readings; troubleshoots high/low water bills; researches abnormal meter readings; re-reads meters with unusual usage levels; and verifies that meters are registering consumption accurately.

Generates service orders to replace or repair non-registering meters, and broken meter boxes; identifies meters needing replacement or repair; enters data into computer systems; verifies accuracy of information entered; and submits service order.

Inspects newly installed meters: verifies proper installation, function and account information for all newly installed meters.

Ensures routine maintenance is performed on assigned truck and equipment: conducts pre- and post-trip inspections, including checking all fluids, gauges, lighting, mirrors, tires, body damage, seats and seatbelts, cleanliness of vehicle, etc.; fuels trucks; loads and secures materials; reports all problems or necessary repairs to appropriate personnel immediately; completes and maintains inspection, gas usage and other associated documentation.

Adheres to established safety procedures: monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals.

Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures: receives and reviews various documentation, including production report and service orders; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate; prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, and other documentation, including vehicle maintenance reports and customer information sheets; compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports; and maintains computerized and/or hardcopy records.

Operates or uses various equipment and supplies in order to complete work assignments: operates and maintains a motor vehicle and a hand-held meter reader; operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, or other software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.

Communicates with supervisor, other employees, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
