GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
This is a 160 hour, 2-month appointment that will begin with required completion of a MA Program.
Under general supervision of the Operations Manager and site rotation leadership, we will train an energetic, enthusiastic go-getter for the Medical Assistant Trainee position. The Medical Assistant Trainee is a fast learner, tech savvy, dependable, upbeat, friendly, organized, compassionate, able to multi-task, problem-solve and prioritize in a fast paced environment that puts patients first. DePaul Community Health Centers will provide hands on experience and the opportunity to apply for a permanent position at the end of the trainee period. This assignment may vary from day to day and requires an individual to be flexible. The primary responsibility of the Medical Assistant Trainee is patient care.
The Medical Assistant Trainee:
- Acts within the scope of practice for a Medical Assistant and carries out other clinical and administrative functions as directed by Operations Manager of the Department for any of the assigned Clinical Services.
- Performs routine clinical functions, including but not limited to patient rooming, vital signs, pain screening, height, weight, and documentation of chief complaint.
On the Job Training Interest in Learning:
- Common Adult/Pediatric Pharmacology
- EKGs
- Vital Signs
- Injections/Vaccinations
- Instrument Sterilization/Autoclay
- In-office testing: UA, Glucose, HCT, Flu, Strep
- Phlebotomy
- Insurance plans, Formularies and Coverages types
- Common labs, normal values and ability to relay provider recs/answer patient questions
- Answer patient's general clinical questions pertaining to prescriptions, symptoms, medications, and chronic disease states/illnesses.
- Proficient with EMR (eClinicalworks preferred)
- Other duties as assigned
