Kenyon College is conducting a search to fill the position of Mechanic in the Maintenance Department. This is a full-time position working Monday - Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The rate of pay is $27.29 per hour. This is on a progressive three-year wage scale, reaching $33.28 per hour. The successful candidate must complete a 90-day probation period. Employment at Kenyon College is subject to a satisfactory background check.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Read and interpret drawings, manuals, specifications, etc. to determine work requirements.
• Routinely service all college vehicles, including cars, trucks and vans according to a prepared vehicle maintenance schedule.
• Conduct periodic checks and make repairs to all Grounds Maintenance equipment, including but not limited to tractors, mowers, weed eaters, leaf blowers, seeders, chainsaws, sprayers etc.
• Perform minor repairs requiring mechanical, hydraulic and/or electrical work on vehicles and grounds equipment.
• Perform major repairs such as, but not limited to, overhaul of engines and transmissions.
• Evaluate damage to vehicles and obtain repair estimates from outside firms for insurance purposes.
• Prepare parts lists, obtain cost estimates and purchase needed items after approval of the supervisor.
• Service and maintain all shop hoists and equipment.
• Paint limited areas of vehicles and equipment to prevent corrosion and improve appearance.
• Act as group leader when so designated by supervisor.
• Perform other duties as assigned in emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School graduate or GED with good reading and math skills and mechanical aptitude.
• Have at least 8 years experience in the mechanic trade, at least four of which must have been at the journey level or be a graduate of a formal and recognized ASE Mechanic program.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a standard shift vehicle.
• Knowledge of hand and power tools and test equipment, including electronic analyzers, normally used in the trade and the safe use and/or operation of same.
• Ability to weld various types of metals using electric and/or gas welding equipment as appropriate.
• Ability to comprehend and follow verbal and/or written instruction and work independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certification from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE).

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift, move, and transport materials, supplies, and equipment up to 50lbs.
• Good manual dexterity.

Work Hours:

Monday through Friday 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM, with overtime opportunities as directed by supervisor.
