Marketing and Media Production Specialist

LOCATION: Wayland Baptist University (WBU) – San Antonio Campus, Harlingen Site

SUPERVISED BY: Site Coordinator, Harlingen (RGV)

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Marketing and Media Specialist is responsible for helping develop and implement an annual marketing plan, and organizing and executing special events and fundraising activities. This includes creating digital and print content, managing social media, assisting in the planning and implementation of campus events, aiding in grant management, and interacting with potential donors and sponsors, and working with other marketing staff to develop unique campaign ideas to market products, services or overall brand identity. Duties include completing market research to identify target audience demographics or reviewing previously successful marketing campaigns, working as part of a team to accomplish tasks by setting deadlines and making adjustments throughout marketing campaigns to achieve better engagement with customers. Oversees social media, and creates content for articles, blogs, logos or infographics, etc.

SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES:

  • Manages university social media (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn).
  • Designs marketing/promotional materials for print, digital media, and recruitment purposes
  • Designs email campaigns & regularly updates email lists.
  • Assists in campaigns via Mongoose and other programs.
  • Prepares donor thank you letters and direct mail campaigns.
  • Assists with planning and running special events to include managing guests lists, catering, coordinating vendors, entertainment, photography, etc.
  • Creates & edits video content for social media & promotional pruposes.
  • Maintains donor database and donor reports and giving statistics.
  • Assists in the research of prospective donors and charitable foundations.
  • Assists in developing the San Antonio alumni network and hosting alumni events.
  • Assists in enlisting and training volunteers for special events.
  • Designs the quarterly newsletter and compiles articles.
  • Assists with market research to determine target audience needs, wants, habits, interests and other relevant factors used in creating targeted marketing campaigns.
  • Keeps up to date with the latest media trends.
  • Helps maintain web pages.
  • Performs routine website audits, as well as ongoing maintenance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or related discipline, or demonstrated work experience.

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Experience in a university administration setting, preferably in marketing and/or media.
  • A deep commitment to Christian Higher Education and agreement with the purposes and philosophy of higher education as promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas in general and WBU in particular.
  • Experience in digital marketing and in developing marketing/media pieces.
  • Experience in basic design principles for digital and print.
  • Some experience fund raising or community involvement and charitable work.
  • Experience planning events, and working with volunteers.
  • Experience working with and managing executive level relationships.
  • Experience with mail merges, direct mail campaigns and bulk mail preparation.
  • Experience with databases, data entry, corrections and some report writing.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Well organized and able to independently prioritize projects and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to creatively solve problems.
  • Ability to use or learn to use Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and other software programs such as Raiser's Edge and other data management programs, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator & InDesign, Constant Contact, PlaceIt
  • Ability to write, proof-read and edit correspondence and promotional pieces.
  • Ability to comfortably deal with donors in person, on the phone and in event settings.
  • Ability to manage social media and produce unique content for Wayland to include production/video editing. Knowledge of Adobe Premiere is a plus.
  • Familiarity with content management systems, webpage analytics, customer relationship management and other relevant software.
  • Great organization and prioritization abilities.
  • Working understanding of search engine optimization (SEO) practices.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • Effective at working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift files, open and close file drawers and perform repetitive arm and hand movements.
  • Stooping, bending, and standing.
  • Sitting at a desk or workstation for extended periods.
  • Viewing a computer monitor.
  • Physical dexterity and coordination.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Employment is subject to a 60 day probationary period to monitor satisfactory employee performance. Employee must be able to work as a team player, work indoors and in an environmentally controlled office area with florescent lighting, and on occasion work outdoors, be exact and accurate, pay very close attention to detail, and have transportation to and from work. The qualified applicant must be able to work flexible hours as needed. If hired, the prospective employee must present documentation within three (3) days of hire date to establish identity and employment eligibility as required by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Employee must be able and willing to travel on occasion as needed. Must be able to operate a licensed motor vehicle, have access to a dependable motor vehicle, and possess a valid state driver’s license. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record.
