Job Summary
Responsible for all aspects of System Security training policies, objectives, and initiatives. Plans and directs new training techniques and suggests enhancements to existing training programs. Oversees relationships with vendors to ensure appropriate employee participation in outside training programs. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Leads and manages staff as appropriate, while promoting a variety of department and System initiatives utilizing a wide degree of creativity and latitude. Job Description

Salary range: $45 to $56 per hour

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Management, or related field with minimum of three (3) years of law enforcement or relevant public safety experience
  • In lieu of a degree, a minimum of seven (7) years of law enforcement or relevant public safety experience with at least five (5) years in Healthcare Security Training/Instructing

Licenses/Certifications:
  • Licensed as a Commissioned Security Officer by the Texas Department of Public Safety Private Security Bureau (TDPSPSB) within 30 days of job entry and licensed as a Classroom and Firearms Instructor (J) by TDPSPSB within one (1) year of job entry
  • Valid driver's license upon job entry and Texas driver's license within 90 days of job entry
  • CPR certified within 30 days of job entry Certified CPR Instructor preferred
  • Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA) by the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety preferred

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of diverse teaching strategies for individuals and groups; security and hospital systems, healthcare security and safety trends, change theory, applied security process, quality improvement principles and techniques, and budget/financial management skills
  • Knowledge of principles, theories, and application of healthcare security, teaching-learning theory and of adult/continuing education
  • Ability to conceptualize and develop effective adult teaching strategies
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement change by challenging current paradigms and promoting strategic initiatives
  • Interacts effectively with all employees and management in the system

Principal Accountabilities
  • Facilitates training for new and incumbent Security team members. Evaluates competencies of training participants and supervises staff as appropriate.
  • Develops new curriculum and updates existing curriculum for training & in-service programs for security team.
  • Monitors the effectiveness of training seminars and their effect on service, productivity, & turnover.
  • Oversees the development of training quality evaluation tools.
  • Interfaces with security leadership team throughout the system to identify training and education needs of the security team.
  • Ensures development and maintenance of accurate catalog of training seminars and in-service programs available.
  • Stays informed on current and future trends/practices and of regulatory and governing standards.
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
