Overview:
The Industrial Engineering Organization provides mission-critical support to EB Leadership and the functional organizations by developing and managing the organization's improvement strategies, measuring the impact of an organization's improvement activities, and establishing processes for the simultaneous build of Virginia, VPM and Columbia class construction.

This position will be responsible for leading the Construction Readiness group at the Quonset Point facility and Focus Factory sites. Primary goals of the construction readiness group are to (1) drive construction readiness efforts of programs prior to construction start and continued construction, (2) identify construction risks to execution within model span and (3) support continuous improvement initiatives to improve hull-over-hull construction performance.
This manager will provide direct leadership and technical oversight of construction readiness planning and execution efforts for both COLUMBIA and VIRGINIA Class programs. This manager will be responsible for the development and growth of the QP construction readiness team. The Construction Readiness team employs skillsets that span advance and detail planning, material procurement, spatial and work center readiness, as well as staffing of critical skills.

Specific responsibilities include:
  • Manage construction readiness efforts of the Industrial Engineers and Manufacturing Representatives as they coordinate their multi-discipline efforts validating readiness for start of construction
  • Provide risk assessment as it pertains to construction start and continuous construction progress
  • Operational control to ensure operational and quality excellence of the team’s products and process execution
  • Team with Ship’s Management to monitor schedule adherence to ensure timely delivery of products to support construction readiness reviews and risk assessments
  • Support of internal and external audits, commitments, overhead costs, and department earned hours objective
  • Coordinate efforts with VIRGINIA, COLUMBIA, and Strategic Sourcing Program Office (SSPO) to drive deck plate operational readiness
The Manager of Industrial Engineering – Construction Readiness will build and manage effective teams, understand and communicate data to drive business decisions, meet certification requirements, and maintain collaborative relationships with key stakeholders. The successful candidate will have experience with and a working knowledge of Shipyard processes and electronic applications, supervisory and project management experience, and a track record of proven results. This position requires a high degree of professionalism, political savvy and clear, concise communication with all levels of management and internal / external personnel. The candidate must possess strong interpersonal skills and a team attitude. Must exercise a high level of confidentiality, tact, and discretion.


This position is located at the Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI
Qualifications:
Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering or other related technical degree
  • Combination of 5+ years experience in Planning, Engineering, Operations, or Program Office (or equivalent)
  • 5 years' of leadership experience at Electric Boat, or equivalent (including military)
  • Excellent presentation and oral / written communication skills
  • Experience working with multi-organizational teams, including internal and external customers
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the department of defense
Preferred / Desired:

  • BS in Engineering
  • BLG / FLG graduate
  • Established relationships with government customers
  • Demonstrated success in creating / growing teams
  • Experience with EVMS, Artemis, IMCS and Manpower Plan data analysis / interpretation
  • Experience in construction trades, Design-Build, Engineering, design, Planning
