Tucked just between Zilker Park and Downtown Austin, Carpenter Hotel evokes an easy time in Austin full of fresh air, Texas sunshine, and days spent lazing by the water with a book. A bridge between the city and the outdoors, each part of the property nods to its native surroundings and its rich history. The lobby, restaurant Carpenters Hall, and coffee shop are built in the former Carpenters Local 1266 Union Hall, built in 1948. The hotel features a pool, large pavilion, and 93-rooms, each with a private terrace. While the original meeting hall has been reimagined as our front desk, cafe, and restaurant, and it and the hotel itself are still a place for folks to meet up—to share space and community.

We're looking for:

Carpenter Hotel is looking for a Maitre D' who will provid a warm, friendly, and immediately greets guests at the door, as well as fielding calls the restaurant.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED). College Degree preferred
  • Six (6) months related experience in hospitality or service industry
  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) of the workplace
  • Ability to understand other computer programs (i.e. Property Management System

Job Requirements:

  • Greeting and seating guests, presenting menus to guests
  • Responsible for training new Hosts
  • Manage flow of service and maximize seating space to increase revenue based on seating all guests, walk ins, and large parties seatings (something like that)
  • Ensuring immaculate customer service
  • Proactive in maximizing sales and generating revenue
  • Have full knowledge of menu and comfortable discussing/suggesting items
  • Awareness of all guest’s needs, reservation needs, and restaurant needs at all time
  • Maintain high standard of personal appearance and hygiene at all times, aligned with Carpenters Hall style and grooming standards
  • Speak with team members and guests to encourage feedback
  • Dynamic oversight of Resy and reservations book- ensuring that guestbook is updated with any relevant notes for guest visits
  • Treating guests in a manner to ensure their complete satisfaction
  • Taking names on a waiting list
  • Running the floor plan via reservation system
  • Observing tables and marking their progress in their meal via reservation system. Keeping track of clean, dirty, and occupied tables.
  • Taking guest information and quoting wait time to guests accurately when tables are not immediately available
  • Cleaning, organizing, and stocking menus at host area- Consulting with the chef and bar team and amending menus as needed and printing sufficient quantities prior to service
  • Printing and layout of custom menus for special service events
  • Answering phone and answering questions concerning the menu and restaurant
  • Taking and entering to go and in room dining orders into the system
  • Interacting with guests coming in and as they leave, ensuring a positive dining experience
  • Entering guest visit notes with any relevant feedback from guests.
  • Performing other duties as assigned
  • Lead by example

Based upon fluctuating demands of the operation and to exceed customer expectations, it may be necessary to perform a multitude of different functions not specifically related to this position. This person may be expected to perform other tasks and duties as needed or as directed. Furthermore, employee responsibilities and job descriptions are subject to review and revision.

Working Conditions/Environment

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
  • The person in this position may have to lift up to forty (40) pounds on a daily basis; anything over fifty (50) is considered a minimum two (2) person lift
  • The person having this position may have to sit for one (1) hour, stand and/or walk, push, kneel, bend, balance, squat, reach and stretch for eight (8) hours per day
