• Responsible for the safety of users, enforcement of SAFE pool practices; always ready to act in the event of an incident or emergency.
• Lifeguards must be “rescue ready” while on the stand or in position.
• Caution swimmers regarding unsafe areas, or unsafe behaviors and activities.
• Monitoring and testing pool chemistry.
• Aid in facility maintenance including but not limited to: pumps and pump area, filtration system, heaters, chiller, and chemical storage area.
• Keep all ARC and other certifications up to date.
• Communicate well with staff, aquatic patrons, and all JCC members.
• Follow all safety and emergency procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
• Evaluate all new swimmers and implement swim test.
• Evening and weekend hours as necessary.

• Required Certifications:
• Lifeguard Training (American Red Cross)
• CPR (American Red Cross)
• First Aid (American Red Cross)
• AED Training (American Red Cross)
• WSI (ARC Water Safety Instructor) is a plus
• Previous experience with an aquatics program is a plus.
• Ability to relate to staff and members.
• Must work well with varying age groups of children.
• Previous experience with leading a swim lesson program is a plus.

• Water Safety Instructors (WSI) must have current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor
• Certification through duration of employment.
• Current CPR, First Aid and Lifeguard certifications

• Must have patience and persistence.
• Must have strong leadership and public relations skills.
• Must have sound decision-making skills.
• Must have the ability to maintain self-control in stressful situations.
