Pinnacle Health and Rehab in North Berwick is hiring a full-time Licensed Nurse Unit Manager for our 64-bed skilled nursing facility.

The Unit Manager assists the Director of Nursing to supervise nursing staff and to ensure that quality nursing care is provided to all residents while supporting and practicing the philosophy, nursing objectives and standards of the Nursing Department.

Job Duties

  • Oversee clinical outcomes of a portion of the skilled unit.
  • Perform duties as described in the Nurse – RN or LVN Job Description, as applicable
  • Provide clinical expertise to facilitate and supervise quality of care
  • Establishing and facilitating effective employer/employee relations.
  • Participate in the quality assessment and improvement process and activities
  • Serves as a member of facility committees as assigned by the Director of Nursing. o Participates in the development, implementation and revision of facility policies, standards and procedures, as directed.
  • Participate in internal audits of nursing practices and in developing and implementing a plan of correction when deficits are identified.
  • Assist in developing and/or complying with policies aimed to ensure nursing department compliance with all federal, state and local regulations.
  • Participates in development and implementation of a program to ensure a safe environment for residents, staff and families.
  • Monitors and reviews resident incidents to identify possible compliance issues and to identify patterns that might require preventive intervention.
  • Assists the Infection Preventionist in implementation of infection control policies and procedures as outlined in the facility’s program, as directed. Ensures that all nursing staff members are educated and utilize infection control practices for the protection of employees, residents and families.
  • Assists physicians and Nurse Practitioners with rounds.
  • Assist the Director of Nursing in providing in-services and staff development to nursing staff in order to meet quality of care standards and comply with state and federal regulations.
  • Make regular rounds on nursing units and on all shifts to assess performance of nursing staff and monitor the quality of care provided to residents.
  • Willingness to help clinical staff where needed.
  • Conducts chart reviews and audits.
  • Reviews nursing assessments for accuracy.
  • Assists and trains charge nurses with clinical tasks.
  • Assist the Director of Nursing in ensuring that the nursing department is adequately staffed to provide quality care to residents, as directed by Director of Nursing and/or Administrator, by assisting with:
  • Recruiting and selecting nursing service personnel in the absence of the Director of Nursing based on facility need.
  • Ensuring forms and processes related to hiring are completed for new employees.
  • Ensuring staffing of the nursing department is at a level congruent with resident needs,
  • Participating in orientation sessions for nursing service personnel.
  • Participating in “on-call” schedule for nursing supervisory personnel to ensure 24/7 nursing support for staff nurses.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing and/or the Administrator.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position is delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out the assigned duties. This position oversees nurse aides and licensed nursing staff and is charged with carrying out the resident care policies established by this facility.

Required Education and Experience

  • Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Licensed Vocational Nurse or Registered Nurse in the State of Maine or reciprocal state.
  • 2 years’ experience in a supervisor role in healthcare, Long-Term Care experience preferred.
  • Must be knowledgeable of reimbursement regulations and nursing practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to nursing facility administration.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
  • Must be able to communicate policies, procedures, regulations, reports, etc., to personnel, residents, family members, visitors, and government agencies
  • Strong utilization knowledge of Point Click Care
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office, Internet)
  • Ability to work well under pressure, meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
