QUALIFICATIONS:

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work or an equivalent field; at least 3 years experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Requires post-master supervised practice.

We are a NHSC accredited site which offers Student Loan Repayment through the NHSC paying up to 50k for a Full Time/2 year service commitment.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under indirect supervision, provides, oversees and/or administers a wide range of psychosocial evaluations/assessments, diagnostic, counseling therapy, crisis intervention and/or case management services in a high-intensity clinical environment which requires a high degree of independent decision making and program administration. Leads and trains lower level counselors/social workers, students and/or interns engaged in related therapeutic/patient care activities, as appropriate to the individual position.

The LCSW license qualifies a professional to do DSM-based assessment and treatment of individuals with psychological disorders. It also qualifies LCSW to engage in other social work activities, including those that fall under the LAPSW scope of practice.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:

3. Knowledge of psychological test administration, scoring and interpretation.

4. Interviewing and psychological/developmental evaluations skills.

5. Skill in preparing and maintaining patient records.

6. Knowledge of community medical diagnostic and patient-care services in behavioral health.

7. Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.

8. Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures.

9. Knowledge of community mental health resources.

10. Ability to maintain emotional stability to cope with human suffering, emergencies, and other stress.

11. Knowledge of student outreach services and activities.

12. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

13. Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.

14. Ability to evaluate the progress of therapeutic programs and to make individual modifications.

15. Ability to create, compose and edit written material.

16. Knowledge of the principles and methods of social and vocational rehabilitation as they relate to mental health clinical practices.

17. Knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to patients’ rights.

18. Ability to lead and train staff and /or students.

19. Knowledge of community support services and funding agencies.

20. Knowledge of community health care and vocational services.

PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIPS:

Position requires: a) provision of intensive, integrated professional mental health services and treatment planning in a clinical or outpatient environment; b) provision of professional leadership in the determination of appropriate therapeutic approaches and methods; c) planning and implementing outreach/educational programs, workshops, and activities; d) supervising clinical activities of therapist, students and/or interns within area of social work; and e) establishment and maintenance of case files and related documents for clinical and legal purposes.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provides counseling, therapy and /or psychotherapy to clients and families as appropriate to the position; provides intakes and prepares treatment plans, discharge plans and follow-up care programs; provides therapeutic crisis intervention and emergency services as required.

2. Collects date about patients through interviews, case history, psychological tests, and/or observational techniques; evaluates data to identify causes of problems and to determine proper therapeutic approach to referral to other specialist.

3. Consults therapist and related professional and paraprofessional staff, as appropriate, in the performance of therapeutic and/or casework; refers clients to appropriate service agencies as required.

4. Provides and/or arranges for therapeutic interventions as appropriate for patients or clients in crisis condition and for those with serious disturbance problems.

5. Refers clients to appropriate social service agencies for financial assistance and other required services; may visit patients and families in other settings to provide counseling and outreach services..

6. Follow up to determine reliability of treatment used; change method and degree of therapy when indicated.

7. Establishes and maintains case files, referrals and other related documents for the treatment of clients; prepares related documentation for civil commitment hearings or other legal proceedings; keeps abreast of patient data to ensure appropriate treatment and care are delivered.

8. Consults with other legal and treatment agencies and individuals in relation to patient/client records, rights and responsibilities.

9. Plans and facilitates community outreach and education activities, as appropriate to the position; may serve as a liaison and representative to community organizations and schools.

10. As appropriate to the position, performs various administrative functions such as monitoring and preparing reports and correspondence; may participate in a variety of research projects to develop service plans and may propose changes to program policies and procedures.

11. May provide formal teaching, consultation, and in-service training to relevant professionals in immediate and proper handling of and /or referral of matters.

12. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Stands and walks most of the working day.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Must have a genuine interest in working with mentally ill persons. Must possess a willingness to conform to unusual situations. Must take initiative in maintaining facility in state of good repair. Works under minimum supervision performing daily duties.
