Unit Paid Faculty teach additional courses on an as needed basis

The University of Virginia's School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS) seeks applicants to fill a tenure-ineligible part-time, limited term instructor position for the online UVA Edge Program (edge.virginia.edu) to teach the course ISHU 1501: Academic and Professional Writing. The course is 12 weeks in length and is offered in a synchronous format in the evening in Fall 2023 (with possibilities of additional teaching in the future).

SCPS employs academic faculty who have applicable content expertise at the appropriate level and who provide evidence of recent and/or current professional experience which applies to students’ achieving the goals and learning outcomes of the program. Subject area needs include, but are not limited to:

  • Professional Writing - including resumés, business memos, professional reports, effective emails

  • Academic Writing - including teaching introductory level academic writing courses

Qualifications: This position is for undergraduate-level instruction. A Ph.D. or terminal degree in the teaching area or closely related field is preferred; a master’s degree in the teaching area or closely related field may be considered; relevant expertise is required. Two to four years of relevant subject matter teaching experience is preferred. Familiarity with online instruction is highly desirable.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Master's or terminal degree
Experience: Two to four years of relevant subject matter teaching experience is preferred. Familiarity with online instruction is highly desirable.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
