The University of Vermont’s Department of Education seeks to hire a Lecturer to join our nationally recognized and award-winning faculty. We seek an experienced and innovative educator whose experiences include knowledge, and skill in evidence based practices and a justice-centered approach to their work. We seek highly collaborative individuals to engage in teaching, advising, and service.
This appointment is for a full-time, non-tenure track, Lecturer position with a start date of August 21st. The position is 9-month 1.0 FTE (full time equivalency). Preference granted to those with experience and expertise in children’s literacy, children’s literature, or teaching reading while encouraging applications from those with other content-area foci (e.g. mathematics, social studies, and or science).

Responsibilities
  • The equivalent of eight courses per academic year. Specific courses determined by candidate expertise and program needs.
  • Academic advising of undergraduate students.
  • Service to the program, department, and university through committee participation.
  • Participation in evaluation and accreditation obligations.

The Elementary Education Program at the University of Vermont serves approximately 250 undergraduate students seeking degrees and / or licensure to teach at the Kinder through 6th grade level. The program has a long history of quality educator preparation and the student body is comprised of students from around the United States. The curriculum offers unique experiences and opportunities for students to include place based education, cultural or linguistic diversity, or social justice and anti-racist course work or participate in a large number of short and longer-term travel experiences, including a semester in New Zealand. Our students are highly motivated, with strong numbers of Fulbright’s, honors students, scholars of distinction, student campus leaders & student athletes.

Qualifications:
  • Earned graduate degree (master’s or doctorate) in relevant field;
  • Evidence of effective teaching at the K-6th grade level;
  • Demonstrated commitment to anti-racism, diversity, and social justice and experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse populations;
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
