HERFF JONES, Continuous Improvement Engineer – Indianapolis, IN
Your Opportunity:
The Herff Jones Production team is looking for a Continuous Improvement Engineer to join our team in Indianapolis, IN.
This is an exempt, full-time position with benefit eligibility including, medical, dental, vision, life, 401(k), paid time off, and additional voluntary benefits.
Here's How You’ll Make an Impact:
As the Continuous Improvement Engineer, you will work with a team to establish, implement, and maintain an environment of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodology throughout our Indianapolis Facilities. Additionally, you will assist in the overall direction, implementation, and continuous improvement of Lean systems infrastructure in all phases of the operations. This role will require the ability to understand department needs and objectives and interact with all levels of the organization.
What We Want You to Accomplish:
First 90 Days:
Learn all product lines and production processes.
Assist in the definition and design of operational processes for new initiatives, workflow changes, new systems, and begin to develop project map and timelines.
Drive the standardization of processes and implementation of metrics and best practices.
First 180 days:
Assist in ensuring all cross functional communication, planning, knowledge management content and training curriculum supports the intent of the program and will allow for successful hand off to departments for implementation and sustainment.
Establish data tracking and metrics to help drive accountability.
First 365 Days:
Responsible for continuously evaluating strategic processes/key initiatives including taking action to improve the overall delivery success.
Continue to build out and grow 7S and Lean programs.
Actively and consistently simplify and enhance the developed processes.
What You’ll Be Doing On A Daily Basis:
Assist in defining requirements for operations and ensure the implementation of continuous improvement strategies and initiatives to effectively meet or exceed business requirements and customer expectations.
Act as an experienced contributor on complex or critical assignments.
Assist in administration and communication of company policies, goals, strategies, and vision. As needed.
Support quality systems, continuous process improvements, and safety initiatives in accordance with Lean thinking throughout the organization.
Collaborate with your team to advance company metrics including safety, quality, delivery, cost, and morale.
Develop, model, and coach Lean applications.
Participate in reviewing Lean performance expectations with leadership teams across the organization.
What You’ll Bring to the Table:
Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Lean Manufacturing, or related field preferred.
1-3 years of Continuous Improvement or Lean/Six Sigma experience.
Experience in continuous improvement efforts in a mid-size seasonal manufacturing company preferred.
Lean, Six Sigma certifications preferred.
Experience implementing Kaizen projects preferred.
Root cause analysis experience preferred.
Proven success to effectively communicate (listening, writing and verbal) to multiple teams, ensuring the delivery of the message stays consistent.
Well-organized, be able to multi-task and have a high level of attention to detail.
Customer service driven, able to understand and support the business goals and objectives.
Ability to interface with all departments and levels of the company.
A strong sense of urgency and desire to exceed expectations.
Ability to maintain a positive attitude in an extremely fast paced environment.
Demonstrates success managing multiple processes and tasks.
Moderate to advanced skills with Microsoft Office (specifically Excel) and learning new systems/technology.
Physical Requirements:
Daily activity may include, but is not limited to reading, lifting, communicating, carrying, sitting, grasping, reaching, standing, kneeling, walking, bending, twisting.
Ability to sit and work at a computer for long periods of time.
Be able to occasionally lift/move up to 25lbs.
Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
