The Role
Contribute to Element Management System Support team; understanding of Network Operations Centers, Network Services Provisioning, Service Delivery is preferred. Ability to perform application administration tasks on a variety of server environments, both physical and virtual, with limited supervision. Expected to be an experienced problem solver with strong verbal and written communication to provide a good customer experience to all application users.
Responsible for reading and comprehension of a variety of technical documentation from software developers, and use that to engineer, deploy, administer, and troubleshoot 3rd party commercial software in a complex IT environment.
Understand and balance priorities such as service outages, end-user support, projects, and special requests and communicate any challenges to leadership. Drive to resolution any application outages, troubles or end-user issues and report software issues to vendor for code patching and update as needed. Undertake multiple complex projects which may require coordination across multiple business units. Interact with and provide input to Architecture and Engineering for process and systems improvement.
Responsible for outage response, high-level systems analysis, evaluation, documentation, and implementation requiring a thorough knowledge of administrative and technical skills related to Lumen’s Element Management Systems.
Normal working hours Monday – Friday 6A ET to 8P PT with after-hours and weekend support as needed. Though travel is uncommon, the selected candidate may be required to visit company locations.
The Main Responsibilities
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all assigned applications and required understanding of network technologies associated with assigned applications.
- Respond to alarms, tickets and escalated issues and provides technical support for the assigned applications.
- Establish and document process and support documentation for assigned applications.
- Drive automation projects in partnership with external functional group resources
- Provide support by answering questions from internal clients and team members and ensure functions are completed on-time, efficiently, and in a customer experience focused manner
- Keep up to date on current workflow and department procedures in order to respond to questions, provide work direction, or complete tasks
- Support inquiry response and conduct outage related research and analysis
- Active member of On-Call rotational support and function as a Subject Matter Expert (SME/Leader) during technical outages and or incidents
- Continuously evaluate interfaces with other departments, divisions, and the efficiency and effectiveness of workflow between areas of responsibility
- Document all activities and efforts related to outage response in ticketing system
- Function as an operational liaison between various business units and leaders, as well as between internal staff and external vendors
- Continue to stay current on assigned business unit technologies to provide continuous tier three level support as needed
What We Look For in a Candidate
Minimum:
- Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of experience.
- Server and Operating System Administration (All or some: HP-UX, Solaris/SunOS, Linux, CentOS, VMWare, Windows Server, Docker)
- Basic Scripting or Minimal Programming (All or some: Bash, Pearl, Python, NodeJS, APIs)
- Application Administration
- Security Administration (AAA, RADIUS, LDAP, Active Directory, SSL, DNS)
- Understanding of Data Center Networking and Firewalls
- Simple Database Administration (MySQL, SyBase, Mongo, Cassandra, Oracle, Maria, PostgreSQL)
- Element Management Systems (EMS) Operation and Administration experience preferred
- (Adtran, Calix, Ciena, Infinera, Fujitsu, Lightriver, Tellabs, Megasys, Nokia, Nortel)
- Webtool or Automation Development and Support experience preferred
- Project Management experience preferred
Preferred:
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field is preferred. Experience can be substituted for educational requirements
