Position Purpose:
This position is responsible for learning the basic principles of power plant operations, keeping the plant and plant site clean, and performing tasks and services, as needed.

Qualifications:
To perform effectively in this position, the incumbent must have the ability to communicate with supervisors and co-workers in both written and verbal forms at a level acquired through successful completion of a high school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSED) and two years of industry-related experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and two years of equivalent military training/experience; or completion and acquisition of a Certificate of Completion in Power or Process Plant Technology; or an Associates in Applied Science (AAS) in industrial mechanical maintenance, industrial electrical maintenance, industrial instrumentation, welding, or diesel mechanic. The level of education/experience is required so the incumbent has a basic knowledge of production of electricity, the terminology used in a generating station, and a working knowledge of power plant systems, which qualifies the incumbent to enter into in house training which allows the incumbent to qualify for temporary upgrades or be qualified to progress to another level as openings become available. A valid driver’s license is required.

Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands:
This position requires constant standing/walking; frequent lifting/carrying up to 35 pounds, and pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds; and occasional lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds, pushing/pulling up to 60 pounds, sitting, bending/reaching, and climbing. This position uses shovels, squeegee, and brooms, and operates the following: forklift, skid steer loader, dumpster truck, trucks, lawn mower, snow blower, high-pressure water blaster, bridge crane, farm tractors up to 180 horsepower, and small hand tools and equipment. This position may also be exposed to heat/cold, dirt/dust, chemicals, noise, and must become respirator-qualified. The incumbent frequently is required to work in confined areas and at heights up to 300 feet, which requires the use of safety equipment, including a harness, in accordance with ANSI Z359 standards. The incumbent must also be able to distinguish colored control lights and hear alarms. The incumbent must have good color vision, and the ability to read, comprehend, and follow written/verbal instructions. This position is assigned to work both indoors and outdoors. The incumbent must also possess the ability to communicate to supervisors and co-workers in both written and verbal forms. This position requires the ability to operate a motor vehicle.

Wage: $33.95
