Job description

Oversee the daily operations of Clinical Client Services division within the Coralville State Hygienic Laboratory (SHL). This includes Clinical Data Entry, Test IA Call Center, and Client Relations Team. This position is a working supervisor role. These departments are responsible for handling incoming client inquiries, entering & verifying data (clinical specimens) into the laboratory management system, processing orders etc. The supervisor is responsible for all operational aspects, including performance management, payroll, budgeting, team building, process improvement, and problem solving. This person will act as a liaison to the testing areas and will also identify pre-analytical as well as post-analytical issues that may affect test performance and/or results, and notify the appropriate departmental staff or client, to maintain service excellence.



Work Location: Coralville, IA

Work Schedule: M-F, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. (periodic weeknight/weekend/holiday hours required)

About the State Hygienic Laboratory
The State Hygienic Laboratory’s main facilities are headquartered on the University of Iowa's Research Park campus northwest of Iowa City in Coralville. Additional testing facilities are part of the Iowa Laboratory Facilities in Ankeny, a Des Moines suburb.

Since 1904, the State Hygienic Laboratory has been at the forefront of public health issues in Iowa. As the state’s public health and environmental laboratory, the Hygienic Laboratory serves all of Iowa’s 99 counties through disease detection, environmental monitoring, and newborn and maternal screening.

Qualifications:

Education or Equivalency Required
Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, laboratory science, business, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrate at least one year of related experience.
  • Demonstrate high proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to perform tasks that require accuracy and detail-level attention at a working level of proficiency.
  • Demonstrates extensive, typically one to three years, customer service skills.


Highly Desirable Qualifications

  • Demonstrate one to three years of direct supervision of professional staff, is preferred.
  • Experience with laboratory information systems/laboratory information management systems.


Desirable Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a laboratory setting.
  • Experience working with and complying with non-negotiable deadlines.
