Job description
We are a neurobiology laboratory at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore have opportunities for two undergraduate students to assist with the projects of postdoctoral and graduate research fellows. The commitment must be at least for two semesters. The duties include various molecular techniques such as qPCR, DNA extraction and RNA extraction, animal (mouse) handling, assisting in mouse colony maintenance, etc. We require a minimum of 15-20 hours per week.
Primary Duties:
  • Running qPCR plates
  • DNA and RNA extraction
  • Prepares simple chemical solutions, media, reagents, and buffers.
  • Assist postdoctoral and graduate fellows with various lab procedures such as immunohistochemistry, brain slicing, etc.
  • Assist in mouse colony maintenance, animal handling, and behavioral studies.
Qualifications

Required knowledge/skills/abilities:

Interest in learning research techniques and procedures in a laboratory; able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to follow written protocols and maintain records of work; willing to work collaboratively with other lab members. At least one semester of laboratory coursework is preferred, but not required. Must be okay with being around/ learning to handle mice-related experiments.
