Cook/ Kitchen Manager

Cook/Kitchen Manager Job Description
- Plans monthly breakfast and lunch menu. Prepares food in accordance with current applicable federal and state guidelines and regulations to ensure high-quality food service is provided. Will also record meals in a manner consistent with the National School Lunch Program, with training and assistance from Food Service Director Administrative Consultant as needed.
- Follows basic recipes and/or product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, and serving breakfast and lunch. Uses senses to monitor for food quality and food safety. (taste, touch, smell, sight)
- Estimates food requirements based on student pre-orders, checks production, and keeps records in order to accurately plan production requirements and requisition supplies and equipment. Orders food and milk and any other needed food service items through contracted vendors.
- Follows determined meal time schedule and any occasional adjusted mealtime schedules based on the student bell schedule for the day.
- Properly follows the procedure for disposing of kitchen waste materials and keeps the kitchen clean.
- Follows proper dishwashing procedures, including pots and pans and temperature logs.
- Takes and records food temperatures and takes corrective actions for inappropriate temperatures.
. ServeSafe certification required to be completed within 60 days of hire date.
- Receives inventory, moves and lifts foodstuffs and supplies and places items in appropriate food storage areas, dating product and rotating older stock with new stock.
- Maintains a working knowledge of POS and updates POS system and assures that the system is utilized during mealtimes daily by food service staff. Generates reports for student lunch account balances and monthly claims.
- Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated. Assists and participates in the hiring and training of food service staff.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Strong commitment to the mission, vision, goals and objectives of St. John Vianney, and to working with young children from diverse racial/cultural populations and their families.
High school diploma or Equivalent.
Ideal candidate has previous experience with cooking in a school or daycare, and with federal SNP (School Nutrition Program) or CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program), but not required/
Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus, with or without corrective lenses; excellent attention to detail.
Ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time (6- 8 hours).
Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull, and frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.
Excellent judgment, communication and creative problem-solving skills.
Energetic, flexible, collaborative and proactive.
Completion of a background check required.
Be at least 18 years of age.
