GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Performs semiskilled work examining and administering medical and routine care for animals, maintaining animal
care facilities, and related work as apparent or assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Practices proper animal handling, housing, and care established by standards of shelter medicine.
  • Works directly with public who are reclaiming animals, adopting, purchasing registrations, vaccinating,
and/or gathering information.
  • Monitors and provides care to animals by washing, feeding, watering, and distributing medications.
  • Cleans animal kennels and cages daily.
  • Maintains cleanliness of facilities, including office area.
  • Schedules veterinarian visits.
  • Checks and assesses animals for illness.
  • Assists with treatments, spay/neuter procedures, and euthanasia protocols.
  • Assists Animal Control Officers with animal intake.
  • Educates the public about vaccinations, spay/neuter options, and care for domestic animals.
  • Keeps daily log of activities and performs data entry.
  • Performs receptionist, clerk, and/or dispatcher duties, as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High school diploma or GED.
Experience:

✓ Minimum of one year of professional experience in providing care and proper handling of all types of
domestic animals.

✓ Minimum six months of experience with direct public contact.
✓ Knowledge of animal control laws and animal handling skills preferred.
✓ Basic knowledge of personal computers
✓ Ability to deal with the public in a sensitive manner under stressful situations.
