The ideal candidate for this role will be a proven leader with a high level of emotional intelligence and strong interpersonal skills. They will take a coaching approach to supporting and motivating their team, understand the importance of setting expectations and being accountable, value collaboration, will have proven problem-solving skills, and experience in leading through change. They will be comfortable with technology, experienced in providing phone-based customer service, and have basic computer skills to include utilizing web-based programs and Microsoft Office (Word and Excel). Candidates will exemplify the agency values of integrity, kindness, equity, and inclusion and will have a proven track record for providing excellent customer service (internal and external) and interacting with people who are from a wide variety of backgrounds, ethnicities, and beliefs.

You will be responsible for supervising a team of adjudication agents providing them with coaching and mentoring to ensure the accuracy, efficiency, fairness and accessibility of unemployment insurance benefits. You will participate in claim center leadership meetings, regularly communicating with other supervisors and lead workers and providing a minimum of monthly feedback and evaluations to unit leads based on established criteria for the lead position. Monitoring data from all data systems/resources to identify staff performance issues, daily, ensuring adherence to schedule and performance expectations of staff. This full-time/non-permanent, Unemployment Insurance Specialist 6 (UIS6), Supervisor position is 100% telework and is anticipated to last up to one (1) year.

Duties

You will directly supervise and provide guidance by coaching and mentoring staff to assist them in meeting workload, productivity and desired levels of achievement for quality work assignments. Writing performance expectations and performance and development plans, conducting evaluations. Ensuring PDPs are implemented effectively and reviewing weekly productivity reports with unit staff regarding performance expectations. You will use collaboration, teamwork and other interpersonal skills while working one on one and as part of a team with multiple staff, encouraging learning and growth while building relationships.

Core Daily Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining a consistent, accurate and effective flow of policy-based information to line staff and customers of the UI program.
  • Planning, assigning and monitoring workload for team and coordinating all required work duties for staff with other office leadership such as off-phone duties.
  • Providing technical assistance, training and guidance to employees regarding unemployment and department unemployment insurance laws, policies, processes and procedures.
  • Coaching and mentoring staff regarding the resolution of complex issues to meet the US Department of Labor BTQ standards.
  • Identifying and coordinating training needs of individual staff members and ensuring their training needs are met.
  • When needed, developing and implementing training for staff to ensure they have the skills and information needed to serve customers and meet productivity goals.

Qualifications

Required:
The qualified candidate will have 1 or more of the following experiences and/or education:

A combination of education and/or relevant experience equivalent to six (6) years, which includes two (2) years of supervisory experience providing customer service in areas such as unemployment insurance, social services, human resource services, education, public relations, benefits programs, and insurance claims.

OR One (1) year of experience as a UI Specialist 5.

OR Two (2) years of experience as a UI Specialist 3 or 4.

OR One (1) year of experience as an ES Program Coordinator 2 in a UI program and one (1) year of full-time experience making either eligibility determinations and authorizing unemployment insurance benefits or applying unemployment insurance laws in the adjudication and writing of the full range of non-monetary determinations. Experience may be concurrent.

Education to Experience Equivalences:
Associate Degree = 2 years | Bachelor Degree = 4 years | Masters or Higher = 5 years
