New River Community and Technical College is West Virginia’s newest independently accredited Institution of higher education. Located in the beautiful mountains of southeastern WV, through its five locations-Beckley, Lewisburg, Princeton, Summersville, Ghent-the college serves thousands of students by offering traditional programs, continuing education, and workforce development each year.

This position is located at the Greenbrier Valley Campus in Lewisburg, WV and reports to the Dean of Workforce, Technical and Community Education. The position does require travel to other campuses to participate in institutional committee work and college-wide initiatives, as well as travel to other events of activities as a representative of the college.

Examples of Duties:

The primary duties for the successful candidate will be teaching a full range of cosmetology courses for New River Community and Technical College. This Instructional Specialist is required to keep current industry licenses and provide support to thee barbering program. Duties include student advising, monthly recruitment, and retention activities; professional development; college and community service; participation in committee activities; advisory committees; curriculum design and assessment; and other duties assigned by the academic dean.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/Licensure:

· Current Cosmetology Instructor license is required

· High School Diploma or GED is required

· Must have or obtain Barbering Instructor certification within 3 months of hire

Experience

Minimum of two (2) or more years of full- time equivalency of teaching /training experience

OR

Minimum of three (3) or more years of recent, related full time industry experience is required.

Experience utilizing technology in the classroom and in teaching is preferred.

Must be familiar with current professional industry regulatory standards.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

Must be able to schedule activities; gather, collate and or classify data; use basic job-related equipment, effectively instruct students assigned in technical area emphasizing career development skills; must establish appropriate learning goals and objectives as well as effective lesson plans; effectively communicate orally and in writing; establish and maintain approved and effective discipline and order in a classroom and work site environment; and guide and advise students regarding assigned technical area.

Classification/Compensation:

This is a 12-month faculty position working 37.5 hours per week. Compensation is $53357.00 per year plus a complete benefits package.
