The Inspector I inspect construction in one or more the following inspection categories: Building, Plumbing, Mechanical, or Electrical, to ensure permit, code, and regulatory compliance, issues notices of corrections as needed, provides compliance information to permit holder, and reports any findings with recommendations for project compliance. This position falls under the direct supervision of the Building Official and Deputy Building Official.


EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Inspects construction projects and properties to observe compliance with applicable construction plans, specifications, and codes; reads and interprets construction plans and specifications; resolves issues between contractors and owners by providing code explanations related to inspections and/or construction plans or drawings

Prepares and/or completes a variety of forms, lists, and/or other related items; disseminates information to appropriate individuals and issues stop work notices as directed

Receives and responds to questions and/or complaints from a variety of individuals and/or businesses regarding codes and regulations, inspection schedules, inspection results, and code compliance requirements

Prepares and maintains construction and building inspection results by entering data into a permit tracking system, files and logs; prepares related reports

Attends a variety of meetings related to construction projects and/or progress

Performs other duties as needed


TYPICAL QUALIFCATIONS

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

Training and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) and five years of verifiable experience in the building construction field; or, a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.

License and Certifications:
Valid driver's license from state of residence
A State of Florida Provisional Inspector License issued by DBPR must be obtained within 90 days of employment and a Standard Inspector License issued by DBPR must be obtained within one year of employment

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics (KSAOs):
Construction principles and methods
Construction inspection methods
Providing customer service
Using a computer and related software applications
Reading construction drawings, plans, and/or specifications
Inspecting construction projects
Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc., sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction
Troubleshoot problems
Document observations

Emergency Management Responsibilities:
During emergency conditions, the incumbent of this position will automatically be considered an emergency service worker. Physical Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, finger and hand dexterity as well as repetitive motions.
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, intense noises, and travel.
