Our Innovation Manager of 3D Printing is a high impact position located at Dentsply Sirona's new Global Innovation Center located in Charlotte, North Carolina. This position is for developing novel biomaterials and 3Dprinting solutions to the unmet needs of the dental industry including the ideation and development of new dental materials and 3D printing solutions for our customers. He/she/they will be responsible for:
  • Lead the creation of prototype design concepts, lead design Verification and Validation efforts, and assist with manufacturing implementation.
  • Lead technical team through stage gate product development process and research projects involving advanced 3D printing technologies.
  • Collaborate frequently with our Quality, Regulatory, Marketing, Manufacturing and other cross functional teams to support various project workstreams.
  • Lead with technical guidance multidisciplinary research team, to complete independent and team research projects involving advanced additive manufacturing technologies and successfully integrate to commercialization.
  • Investigate and corroborate with technical team fundamental relationships between printing parameters, biomaterial properties, and print quality.
  • Participate in writing research proposals, reports, patent applications, presentations, and publications.
  • Apply personal scientific knowledge/lead team efforts to design and develop material and printing solutions that meet product design requirements and ensure marketplace success.
  • Develop and communicate material and design specifications to relevant design partners and stakeholders.
  • Lead the creation of prototype design concepts, lead design Verification and Validation efforts, and assist with manufacturing implementation.
  • Assist in departmental strategic plans and policies.
  • Provide technical leadership to cross-function product development teams.
  • Lead and develop scientist and engineers in the application of sound design principles and scientific evaluations.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include hiring, training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; assist with appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Continue learnings to maintain an awareness of competitive products, dental procedures, and applicable new 3DP technologies.
  • Complete all necessary training on pertinent Global, Pillar and Departmental procedures and maintain a Training Log documenting successful completion of each procedure. In addition, the associate must apply what was learned during training to ensure quality products are produced.
  • Work practices and procedures meet Dentsply Sirona’s Standard Operating Procedures for design, commercialization, and manufacture of medical devices.
  • Provide verbal and written reports of activities to senior management.
  • May be called upon to communicate results within R&D and to departments outside R&D, such as, Quality Assurance, Technology Transfer, Marketing or Engineering.
  • Conduct literature / web-based searches to assist in designing experiments, developing test methods, and finding sources for experimental materials.

Education:
  • PhD in Materials Science, Polymer, Mechanical, Biomedical engineering or similar field. Masters or Bachelors in Engineering with appropriate years of industry experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of years’ experience working with biomaterials for 3D printing, preferably with bioprinting technologies and/or within medical device industry.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience leading technology or product development teams.

  • Materials: Strong understanding of physical, chemical, biological properties, and applications of biomaterials and 3D printing.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding 3D printing technologies.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquires or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original, innovative techniques and styles. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentation on complex topics.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply advanced mathematical and statistical concepts.
  • Reasoning and Problem-Solving Agility: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
