The VP for Research is seeking an Innovation Impact Program Manager. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE ), 12-month, professional faculty position.

The Advantage Office is a series of departments focused on supporting and advancing the university’s research enterprise by maximizing innovation, economic and societal impact. The office and its resources are a leading driver and steward for a strategic innovation economy in Oregon and beyond. This position is in the Innovation Impact Program and includes the Advantage Accelerator.
In support of Oregon State’s Land Grant mission of continually expanding and improving its societal and economic impact on Oregon and beyond, this department supports Strategic Plan 4.0, Action 15, Strengthen our support system for innovation and entrepreneurship (I&E), and works to align its efforts with national priorities in research and commercialization, these efforts of the Research Office and the Advantage Office. The Program Manager, under the supervision of the Executive Director for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (EDIE), will be a focal point for managing the operational aspects of the Innovation Impact Program (IIP) department and its Advantage Accelerator (AA) programs. Elements of the IIP and AA include but are not limited to:
  • Diversity Equity and Inclusion plan implementation
  • Focused College Engagement programs
  • Broad College Engagement programs
  • Accelerator programming
  • Intern experiential programming
  • Innovation funding programs
  • The Innovation Advocates program
  • Internal and external outreach and engagement programs


The IIP/AA Program Manager will have an understanding of the academic nature and priority of the university. The individual must have a demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-moving, action-oriented, customer-focused, service environment. The job involves external pressure from entrepreneurs, investors, companies and researchers, and thrives on flexible action. The IIP/AA Program Manager is required to work the hours necessary to accomplish the job. S/he must be able to provide high quality service in a timely manner, work both independently, and on teams and supervise 1 – 3 student interns.
S/he participates in the creation and implementation of programs designed to achieve the department’s goals of increased societal and economic impact in Oregon and beyond.

Position Duties
60% Operations
Internal and External Communication/Marcomm:
  • Develop and drive outbound and inbound (inside OSU) written/digital communications such as the AA newsletter, social media, press releases, website copy, presentations, workshop material, and other forms of communication with stakeholders and potential clients.
  • Manage the planning, layout, content creation and publication of the department website
  • Manage the creation and revision of department’s printed and electronic publications
  • Support IIP and AA staff in developing marketing and messaging pieces for the IIP’s and AA’s internal and external stakeholders which includes University Relations and Marketing, the Innovation Advocates, Associate Deans for Research, Business Oregon, the State Legislature, the Accelerator’s Advisory Board and more.


Program Management:
  • Manage IIP programs such as:
  • Innovation Day, held once per-term to create engagement with IIP and AA programs. This includes planning, scheduling, coordinating staffing, recruiting attendance, follow-up messaging, etc.
  • Speaker Series, held every other month to create engagement with promising startup entrepreneurs to provide baseline information. This includes planning, scheduling, coordinating staffing, recruiting attendance, follow-up messaging, etc.
  • University Summer Investment Opportunity, managing the operational and logistics aspects of this program.
  • Other programs as are developed.

Program Support:
  • Work collaboratively with Innovation Impact Catalyst Manager in the creation in helping develop and implement the Advantage Accelerator’s entrepreneurial training programs. This includes:
    • Helping determine the content of the programs
    • Helping design and create web based educational materials
    • Update program applications and activating/deactivating them on scheduled dates
    • Aiding in the operational aspects of the recruitment and onboarding of Accelerator clients (e.g., scheduling, routing paperwork for signatures, etc.)
    • Supporting the creation and tracking of client metrics for reporting out to a variety of internal and external stakeholders


Records Management:
  • Serve as the office administrator for the intellectual property software data management system (Minuet) in coordination with partnering offices.
  • Manage the execution, processing, tracking and documentation of investment contracts, confidentiality agreements and other IIP and AA related documents
  • Prepare periodic summaries of client performance and program metrics using data gathered from the data management system, client surveys, and other sources.
  • Collect, manage and maintain an Accelerator client database that includes clients and resources provided to each, including initial applications, intern work products, funding events, client presentations, corporate status and other supporting information.
  • Follow up with current and past staff, associates, colleagues, clients, interns, etc. as needed to create accurate and updated information for and from the various programs.
  • Coordinate with Advantage Office personnel for internal and General Council reporting needs.
  • Help facilitate documentation for Accelerator lab use space with the Business Services Office, the Advanced Technology and Manufacturing Institute, and/or appropriate personnel.

35% Administrative Support
Director’s Liaison:
  • Engagement with the EDIE on communication and execution of IIP programs including support of the Innovation Advocates, who are innovation and entrepreneurship initiative leaders and ambassadors within their respective departments, colleges and organizations.
  • Serve as an initial contact for students, clients, staff, faculty, and the public by phone, in person, and email
  • Provide information and explanations about policies, procedures, and processes related to IIP and AA programs.
  • Make situation-appropriate referrals for students, staff, faculty, and public.

Administrative Support:
  • Prepare and distribute advisory board meeting minutes
  • Track action items outlined by the EDIE, innovation impact catalysts, and advisory board
  • Compose and edit correspondences to clients and researches
  • Compile and prepare statistical reports related to funding metrics.
  • Manage the assets of the IIP and AA offices which include lab space, hot desks, meeting rooms, collaborative space, and classroom.
  • Anticipate needs and coordinate all aspects of high-level meetings, engagements, and presentations, including: scheduling, logistics, itineraries, reports, send reminders, notifications and collect RSVPs for meetings as necessary.
  • Office supply ordering/management, and other activities as assigned.
  • Support the Innovation Impact Catalyst Manager in the hiring process for student interns including posting of position, coordinating applicants’ responses, creating interview appointments, assisting in processing the hiring documents through the Advantage Office.
  • Provide operational support for events with internal and external stakeholders by:
  • Coordinating with University Relations and Marketing along with other internal and external stakeholders on messaging and storytelling processes.
  • Coordinating with University Events on planning details including; reserving rooms for in-person events, trouble-shooting media, staging, catering, and other services as needed.

5% – Other Duties as assigned.
Minimum/Required Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Marketing, Finance, Operations, Entrepreneurship or Business Studies or other field relevant to the position and three years experience being a lead contact of department/unit or team, interfacing with multiple stakeholders along with generating and tracking program documents. Or combination of relevant degree and equivalent experience.
  • Lead work responsibility and coordination of office procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions and work with limited supervision to accomplish goals is essential.
  • Strong project management and process development and implementation skills.
  • Excellent skills in time management, this position faces constant deadlines and frequent interruptions.
  • Detail-orientated in reviewing, organizing, tracking complex documents and conveying pertinent information to clients is essential.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple, ongoing programs and events.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.


Due to the public component to the position, it is critical that the Program Manager have excellent interpersonal skills, and positive, service oriented manner in all interactions. The individual in this position is responsible for coordinating services between various stakeholders as needed. The individual in this position must display excellent judgment with regard to the issues that can be managed at his/her level or delegate to a higher-level authority.

Preferred (Special) Qualifications
  • Experience in helping create and implement a diversity, equity and inclusion plan/program.
  • Experience in higher education or related field.
  • Experience working for an incubator, accelerator or entrepreneurial based economic development group whether public or private.
  • Experience in creating, implementing and managing educational programming.
  • Experience working with or in a startup.
  • Experience with entrepreneurial training programs working with concepts such as the Lean Startup Methodology, the Business Model Canvas, Value Propositions, Market and Customer Discovery, Product/Market Fit and associated concepts
  • Self-starter with a solutions-focused mindset.
  • Experience in managing a hiring process.
  • Experience in workload balancing, handoffs between Research Office departments, and between members of our immediate team removing duplication of services and non-value add activities.
  • Experience with website management programs such as Drupal.
  • Experience with software programs such as Canva, Mailchimp, slack, hootsuite, LinkedIn. Experience working with a wide variety of stakeholders including students, faculty, staff, university administrators and outside collaborators.
  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently utilize online resources to fill in knowledge gaps.
  • Proven experience effectively prioritizing workload to meet deadlines and work objectives.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
  • Potential for occasional travel in state. Some programmatic activities could occur outside of the IIP offices on one of the OSU campus’ which can require time outside of standard hours.

Likely starting salary is $44.5k – $60k will be commensurate with skills, education, and experience.
