Summary: Installs, repairs, maintains, inspects and calibrates recording, telemetry and controlling instruments used to measure and control variables, such as pressure, flow, temperature, motion, force and chemical composition, using precision instruments and various hand tools. This is accomplished by performing the following essential duties and responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Reads and works from related blueprints and other schematic drawings.
  • Calibrates, installs and/or removes various instrumentation devices.
  • Cuts, bends and installs tubing needed for the proper installation of the instrumentation device.
  • When needed, reads and understands quality control manuals and testing specifications in order to obtain data needed to test or calibrate specific devices.
  • Sets controls to regulate factors, such as current flow, timing cycle, pressure or vacuum, or temperature according to specifications.
  • As needed, disassembles instrument or device in order to determine cause of defective operation or failure.
  • Rejects malfunctioning devices and routes to specified departments for repair or salvaging of survivable parts.

Supervisory Responsibilities - May directly supervise 1 to 5 instrument helpers, or other subordinate personnel in the Operations Department whose intent is to assist with the installation, repair, maintenance, inspection and or calibration of various instruments and instrumentation devices. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Austin Industrial’s policies & procedures and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience - High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. NCCER certified and State Electrical License. Plant Maintenance experience preferred.

Language Skills - Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability -Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills - Advanced computer skills are required for this position.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations - Depending on the job site, certain certificates or licenses may be required.

Other Skills and Abilities - For safety reasons, it is imperative that the employee be able to read and speak fluent English.

Other Qualifications - It may be necessary to travel or commute for this position.
