Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics or related field required.


Licensure and Certification Requirements:

Dietician License Issued by Kansas Department of Health & Environment required.


Experience Required:

At least one year of similar experience required.


Position Summary:

Responsible for the nutritional assessment, care, and education of patients in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, regulations, and established hospital policies and procedures. Ensures quality nutritional care is provided at all times.


Essential Job Functions:

1. Provides and performs nutrition assessment and/or education to patients upon doctor’s order, screening criteria, and patient/family request.
2. Documents all medical nutrition therapy in patient’s electronic medical record.
3. Consults with hospital staff to best meet patient’s nutritional needs.
4. Reviews Dietary Department policies and procedures annually and coordinates with management in making recommended changes.
5. Approves menus, including modified diets, and Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) Nutrition Care Manual (NCM).
6. Responsible for inventory and ordering enteral and oral nutrition supplements.
7. Participates in hospital quarterly Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee (P&T) meetings, Health and Wellness Committee, and other committees as needed.
8. Actively participates in facility’s quality improvement activities.
9. Develops and participates in on-going staff in-service education.

10. Performs monthly dietary department health and safety inspections, records results, and communicates findings to management.
11. Attends and participates in workshops, seminars, in-services, and maintains continuing education hours to keep abreast of current changes in the health care field, as well as to maintain a professional status.

4. Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills to clearly relay and retain information to and from coworkers, doctors, patients, patients’ families, and the public in order to develop and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the community.
5. Work Environment:

This position operates in a typical temperature-controlled clinical or hospital environment. Work environment generally includes minimal risk of exposure to blood/ bodily fluids. Risk generally includes minimal risk of exposure to infectious disease. This position does include occupational risk of exposure to tuberculosis (Category 2). This position includes a low risk of exposure to Hepatitis B.


Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; occasionally required to sit for long periods of time; regularly required to stand for long periods of time; regularly required to use hands to handle, grasp, or feel objects, tools, and controls; regularly required to walk or use other means of mobility; occasionally required to reach with hands and arms above head and below waist; occasionally required to kneel, stoop, and crouch; and occasionally required to use push and pull motion. The employee must frequently be able to lift or move up to 30 pounds using proper lifting techniques. The employee is required, with or without corrective lenses, to have visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection; operation of machines; investigating and assessing; determining accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work; and to make general observations.
