MHA is hiring immediately for Housing First/Next Step Program Director. The Housing First/Next Step Program Director will be responsible for coordination and delivery of services to participants within the Housing First program and the Next Step programs. Assess needs and develop and implement service plans. Provide leadership and clinical and administrative supervision to members of the Housing First/Next Step teams. Ensure management of program in accordance with leadership objectives, organizational mission, policies, practices, program funding, applicable regulatory agency guidelines while promoting the delivery of high quality services.

Housing First/Next Step Program Director Essential Functions/Position Responsibilities:

  • Promote and integrate agency mission, core values, philosophy and principles.
  • Understand and communicate program goals and strategic direction to staff to connect daily work to organization’s mission. Establish and model a positive approach to addressing challenges while building and maintaining a quality programs.
  • Manage Housing First/ Next Step services provided to support the physical and mental well-being, safety, development and quality care for participants and ensure that they are in compliance with Federal and State policies, procedures and regulations as well as MHA policies, procedures and practice.
  • Ensure program participants are receiving support and assistance in the areas of household management, financial management, medication and health services, transportation, community integration, leisure activities, and building and maintaining family and personal relationships.
  • Assess the participants’ needs for substance abuse services/treatment and related issues. Make appropriate linkages. Facilitate the use of other community-based services and/or DMH or DPH funded programs that promote self-help as well as peer support, such as Recovery Learning Centers, BSAS Recovery Centers or dual recovery groups.
  • Develop and implement crisis and pre-crisis plans. Oversee and manage after-hours support and on-call system. Ensure that crisis intervention and stabilization support is provided as needed. Notify Vice President of Mental Health Services and Clinical Director of critical incidents within prescribed timelines.
  • Work with agency nurse to ensure participants are receiving training on how to manage their medications and ensure additional supports are implemented if the participant requires more assistance in this area.
  • Maintain regular contact with subordinates to promote frequent and collaborative exchange of information. Advise and assist in problem solving, provide clinical direction, and clarify issues in managing participants' activities.
  • Provide sound judgment to direct efforts of team members regarding clinical procedures, performance, and delivery of service. Delegate assignments; evaluate, assess and monitor performance of direct reports.
  • Participate in the hiring and training of staff. Provide comprehensive program orientation. Assess training needs of staff and promote staff attendance at mandatory and ancillary trainings to maintain certifications.
  • Conduct supervisory sessions; individual training and coaching as well as consistent feedback and recognition are provided. Coordinate trainings and monitor attendance. Complete performance evaluations and promote professional development.
  • Attend management and division meetings. Offer insight and observations that support the work of the division and agency. Work with team to create a participant-centered team that cultivates, understands and honors each participant’s hopes, dreams and personal vision.
  • Collaborate with DMH Case Management, consultants, guardians, funders, and community partners as required. Facilitate active involvement of all members of the participant’s support system.
  • Oversee coordination of participant transitions. Promote the development of person centered assessments, Individualized Action Plans, and Safety Plans including pre-crisis and crisis plans.
  • Visit apartments; review participant records for compliance of MHA and contract funding standards; oversee treatment planning, MAP policy, and general business activities. Support completion of documentation and other CBFS and DMH mandated forms/reports within designated timelines.
  • Promote effective and cooperative communication through collaboration with direct supervisor, human resources, nursing, fiscal and property departments.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources regarding the resolution of personnel-related matters. Develop and implement employee performance improvement plans if necessary. Participate in employee corrective action process and keep Division Vice President apprised of significant developments. Mediate conflicts and conduct investigations as required.
  • Adhere to MHA policies, procedures and timelines pertaining to the completion and submission of programmatic, fiscal, administrative, supervisory and other required documentation.
  • Review expenditures and adhere to established program budget to ensure fiscal responsibility. Work with supervisor regarding issues, occurrences, or modification with potential impact on existing budget.
  • Pursue activities to enhance personal and professional growth. Attend various workshops and training programs. Participate in internal and external committees, task forces, etc.
  • Perform other similar or related duties as responsibilities necessitate or as assigned by supervisor.

Housing First/Next Step Program Director Supervisory Responsibilities:

Provide direct supervision to 2-5 personnel.

Housing First/Next Step Program Director Position Requirements:

Education: Bachelor Degree in related field required. Masters preferred. Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) preferred.

Professional Experience:

Three to five years of related professional experience.

Experience working with mentally ill population and providing outreach services. Experience with group facilitation.

Other Experience: Lived experience in recovery and/or homelessness preferred.
