Position: Head Start Teaching Assistant

Reports To: Education Manager

Location: Granite Falls Head Start Classroom

Salary: (TBD)

Status: Part Time/Non-Exempt

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

1. High School diploma or GED.

2. Experience with preschool children in educational settings preferred.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

1. Willingness to earn Child Development Associate certificate.

2. Ability to maintain an environment that is conductive to learning.

3. Ability to cooperate with teacher, school personnel, office staff and parents.

4. Ability to take direction.

5. Ability to relate to children.

6. Work experience in Community Service based programming preferred.

7. Past or present Head Start parent or student preferred.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assist the teacher with the planning and implementation of age-appropriate activities.

2. Assist with the observation and documentation of student’s progress toward School Readiness Goals by writing anecdotal observations based on the TS Gold objectives.

3. Keep room safe, clean, and attractive for students.

4. Become comfortable teaching a lesson, or being in charge of a group activity, at least once a week. (Once a day preferred)

5. Encourage parents to participate in Parent Meetings, training opportunities, and volunteering in the classroom.

6. Assist teacher in preparing parent communication for families monthly (at minimum) and send home with students.

7. Assist parents in connecting with Family Advocates to help support the family’s needs.

8. Turn in monthly reports/attendance/menus as required.

9. Assist in making requests for supplies & materials for classroom.

10. Dependable attendance/call supervisor if absent.
