Heart & Hands Wine Company is delighted to announce an exciting opportunity for a passionate and dedicated individual to join our team as a full-time Harvest Intern for the upcoming fall/harvest season. Located in the picturesque Finger Lakes region, our small boutique winery focuses on crafting exceptional Pinot Noir, Riesling, and Chardonnay wines. As a Harvest Intern at Heart & Hands Wine Company, you will have the unique chance to gain hands-on experience in various aspects of vineyard management and wine production.

Description, Duties, and Responsibilities:

  • Bottling Assistance: You will actively participate in the bottling process for our remaining 2022 wines, gaining insight into the final stages of production.
  • Vineyard Operations: You will assist in grape receiving, picking, sorting, and processing, playing a vital role in ensuring the quality of our harvest.
  • Cellar Work: You will be involved in juice and wine rackings and transfers, as well as yeast and nutrient additions, contributing to the transformation of grapes into exquisite wines.
  • Sanitation and Maintenance: Keeping the cellar clean and equipment properly sanitized is crucial, and you will play a part in maintaining a hygienic and efficient work environment.
  • Winemaking Support: Tasks such as punch-downs, pump-overs, barrel preparation, and filling will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the winemaking process.
  • Quality Control: You will assist in fermentation monitoring and juice analysis, including measurements of Brix, pH, and TA, ensuring our wines meet the highest quality standards.
  • General Cellar Duties: As part of the team, you will contribute to overall winery cleanliness and organization, helping us maintain a productive and harmonious work environment.

Qualifications:

  • A degree or coursework in winemaking/fermentation sciences is a plus, demonstrating your knowledge and passion for the craft.
  • Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a strong work ethic are essential qualities we seek in candidates.
  • Physical capability to perform all cellar duties related to harvest, vineyard management, and cellar work is required.
  • A willingness to learn our unique production methods and a commitment to maintaining quality control are crucial attributes for success in this role.
  • Full-time availability, including extended harvest hours, is required throughout the harvest season.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and a keen eye for detail are necessary to maintain accuracy and efficiency in your work.
  • The ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment while ensuring safety protocols are followed is essential.
  • Flexibility and availability to work extended hours on short notice are required during peak harvest periods.
  • A valid driver's license with a good driving record and access to a vehicle for commuting is necessary.
  • Candidates must be at least 21 years old and have legal United States work status.

Work Environment Requirements:

  • Physical fitness to lift up to 50 lbs and perform tasks in a physically demanding environment is necessary.
  • You should be comfortable standing, walking on uneven surfaces, and working for extended periods both indoors and outdoors.

Timing and Hours:

  • The position will run from August through the end of October, offering you a valuable opportunity to experience the entire harvest season.
  • On average, you can expect to work 40+ hours per week, with some weeks requiring additional hours while others may be less intensive.
