The Office of the Attorney General is seeking a GVI Coordinator to join the Programs Section and the Major Crimes and Emerging Threats Section. We offer the challenge and opportunity of public service, a professional team environment, and competitive salary and benefits.

The major responsibility of the GVI Coordinator is to provide coordination, litigation and administrative support to the staff and attorneys in the Programs and Major Crimes and Emerging Threats Sections (“MCET”). MCET is the primary prosecutorial arm of the Office of the Attorney General, specifically to the cross-designated position, located in the Norfolk and Newport News divisions of the United States Attorney’s Office (“USAO”). They will report to both the AUSA and the Statewide GVI Coordinator in the Virginia Office of the Attorney General. The work includes assisting in the preparation and filing of briefs, motions, discovery, and other legal pleadings or documents, maintaining legal discovery databases, preparing and organizing documents to be used in litigation, conducting legal research, and legislative bill tracking during sessions of the Virginia General Assembly. The paralegal will also coordinate aspects of the Section’s engagements with outside expert witnesses, including tracking expenditures related to such engagements. Responsibilities also include working with the Section staff to maintain files and ensure appropriate records management.

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for working directly with prosecutors, law enforcement, and members of the community to coordinate resources and build relationships with citizens, law enforcement and prosecutors using GVI strategies in the community. This position will be responsible for assisting with the implementation of evidenced-based practices to reduce or prevent violent gun and gang crimes, such as call-in programs which will need a coordination of resources.
The coordinator will plan and attend community meetings and events. The coordinator will foster partnerships with local agencies, businesses, civic organizations, and the faith community, to address gaps in services for youth/adults. The coordinator will also be responsible for monitoring progress and financial reports related to the grant funding.
The candidate should have knowledge of current policies, guidelines, and initiatives related to re-entry, community violence reduction, and gang and violence intervention/prevention programs and a demonstrated commitment to public interest work, especially experience working on violence prevention issues.

Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will have demonstrated litigation support experience, strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to analyze large quantities of written information, excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy, proficiency in time management, and the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work independently as part of a team. Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel is necessary and working knowledge of case and document management systems and legal search engines is desirable. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two or more years of relevant experience and a bachelor’s degree. Must have strong people skills and the ability to build coalitions and partnerships.

Preferred Qualifications
Equivalent combination of training and experience, including completion of a paralegal education program approved by the ABA, or professional certification by the NALA or NFPA, may substitute for educational criteria.
