Vap Construction is a regional leader for general construction, post frame construction, and steel frame construction based in Atwood, Kansas. As our team continues to grow and diversify, we are seeking a driven and experienced Superintendent to take our General Construction division to the next level. This person’s primary responsibility will be overseeing all of our General Construction projects and providing leadership and possibly training to our General Construction crew members. The Superintendent will supervise our staff, and ensure projects are delivered on time. Responsibilities will also include allocating and monitoring budgets, communicating with customers, coordinating subcontractors, etc. This role requires excellent communication skills, as you’ll collaborate with various people, such as our crew members, architects and engineers, customers, other members of our team, suppliers, and more. In order to succeed, it’s important to know how to implement quality standards, safety standards, and timelines on site. A keen attention to detail is required, as we promise our customers the highest quality work, and we are always striving to deliver the very best.

Responsibilities Include:

• Leading and positively influencing our team to stay inspired and focused on our company mission
• Plan construction processes
• Estimate costs and ensure the projects are on budget
• Collaborate with engineers, subcontractors, etc to determine project needs
• Set performance goals and deadlines
• Supervise staff and provide construction feedback
• Monitor and report on project progress
• Plan inspections and obtain construction permits from local authorities
• Implement safety and quality guidelines
• Order the appropriate equipment and arrange for regular maintenance
• Keep track of material stock and orders
• Ensure the job site remains safe, clean, and orderly
• Take or collect progress photos of every project for quality control and marketing purposes
• Resolve on-site issues and emergencies
• Communicate with customers, conduct walk-throughs, create change orders as needed, etc
• Collaborate with billing department on final invoices, change orders, and other project costs

Requirements & Skills:

• 7+ Years in the Construction industry
• Previous experience as a construction superintendent or in a similar role
• Knowledge of quality, safety, and health guidelines for construction job sites
• In-depth understanding of construction operations and processes
• Familiarity with CAD software
• Ability to skillfully read engineered building plans
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office software
• Organizational and time management skills
• Ability to lead and inspire a team of qualified professionals
• Ability to offer training, coaching, and constructive correction with tact when required
• Degree in construction management, engineering, or similar field

Applicants should live within 40 miles of Atwood, Kansas or be willing to relocate to the area after being hired. This division of our family-owned company splits their time between local projects in northwest Kansas, as well as some projects in collaboration with our post frame building crews within a 300-mile radius.
