Garden Center Associate

Skinner Garden Store is an award-winning garden center retail business serving Topeka and northeast Kansas for over 65 years.

We help people connect with nature, grow gardens to provide food for their families, create places of escape and relaxation, and restore habitat for nature. We’re in the business of helping people with plants….we’re Plant People.

We’re currently looking for people to add to our garden center team.

Our ideal candidate should possess a strong work ethic, be dependable, be a team player and a strong leader. Someone with a positive attitude, a willingness to learn and a love of gardening.

Ideal candidate should:

• Have a passion for gardening (a horticulture background would be great, but is not required)
• Be responsive to customer and employee needs
• Foster a “team” environment
• Uphold our organizational values
• Have the ability to manage difficult situations
• Have a love of both plants and people

This is a full-time, year-round position. It will involve weekends, especially during the spring months. This person will be actively involved in day-to-day responsibilities of retail activities as well as behind the scenes management duties. They’ll make sure their departments are run efficiently and profitably, and help the overall business achieve the same.

Responsibilities include:

• Plant care
• Customer service
• Loading and unloading products

Job Duties:

· Customer Service

· Plant care

· Receiving/unloading deliveries

· Moving and merchandising product

· Always being available to assist customers

· Answering customer questions

· Loading customer orders

· Participating in staff training as needed

· Always being engaged and enthusiastic!

Other Important Details:

· This is an outdoor position…in all kinds of weather

· You will be on your feet the whole time

· Our outdoor sales area is large; you will be moving around and covering a lot of space

· This job involves repetitive lifting

· You will get dirty…guaranteed!

Pay: $10.00 - $15.00 per hour
